This afternoon I have an appointment with Safelite. I have to get a chip in my windshield repaired. I don't know if you've seen TV ads for Safelite. They're a national company that repairs or replaces windshields. In states where it's illegal to have a crack in the window (such as Kentucky), insurance covers the entire cost with no deductible. Asterisk. I called my insurance company yesterday to ask. They said that, while they do pay for it, it counts against you as an insurance claim. Because of that I'm paying for it out of pocket. I have enough discounts to keep the price under $100, which is easily what the insurance rate would jump for having a claim. Sheesh, car insurance is like sick leave at the post office: you have it but get penalized for using it. So if you saw "chips" and were expecting Erik Estrada, sorry. I liked Larry Wilcox better anyway. Obligatory song with "chip" in the title:
