My first husband, and his grandfather, had Lou Gehrig's disease also known as ALS or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.

I sure hope that they are wrong. It is hard when there are illnesses that run in the family. It is like you so want to hope that the next generation does better but at times you cannot do anything to help. I will put him in my prayers.

The doctors used the term familial with us. I do not know how that differs from "genetic" or "hereditary" but I do know that all the brothers and their kids have about a 25% chance of developing this.

I hope the tests come back on a positive note and not with what killed your husband and his grandfather.
