My first husband's younger half brother is being tested next month for the same illness that killed him, and their grandfather. I hope whatever trouble he is having the neurologist figures it out. And I hope they are wrong.

My first husband, and his grandfather, had Lou Gehrig's disease also known as ALS or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.

I sure hope that they are wrong. It is hard when there are illnesses that run in the family. It is like you so want to hope that the next generation does better but at times you cannot do anything to help. I will put him in my prayers.

Thank you friend. I am glad he is paying enough attention to get some testing done.

If it is negative for this illness, he will still need to have some neurological work done.

I am sorry, if it's genetic it's scary.

The doctors used the term familial with us. I do not know how that differs from "genetic" or "hereditary" but I do know that all the brothers and their kids have about a 25% chance of developing this.

I hope the tests come back on a positive note and not with what killed your husband and his grandfather.
