Between money and family, I would definitely say family. Obviously, one needs to make a living to support themselves and their family somehow, but assuming your basic needs are being met, relationships with other people, especially family, ultimately have a much larger impact on your quality of life than money. When you feel well-liked and respected by others, you tend to be more confident, and happier.
One interesting study I once saw showed that people who were more materialistic tended to make poorer financial decisions (ie. buying lots of luxury items on credit), while families who emphasized their relationship over money were not only happier, but also tended to be more financially responsible.
In any case, I believe that strong family units are an asset to any flourishing society, but it seems that strong bonds and quality time between family is not as valued as much as it was in the past. Of course, we could get into a huge philosophical/political discussion about why that is, but I'll just say I am thankful to have had both parents there and actively involved in my life - and remain a part of my life - and I am also thankful to be in touch with my extended family scattered about the country and getting to see them more often in recent years than I used to, and even discovering family I never knew I had via my genealogy research.
Like the vast majority of people, I would always like to make some more money, but when push comes to shove, family is always first.

You need money to feed your family and take care of them. Money can not buy emotional strength, you need family and friends for that. So put family as a priority because it is precious, but have a career to support this precious thing. So try to strike a balance between the two
