Do People Still Read Poems?

I see people read novels, how to books, books on health, child care, recipe books. I wonder if people still read poetry books. I see poets making rounds of publishers' offices and returning with sad faces. They would die of hunger if they didn't have some job to sustain them. In the world that swears on money, writing poetry appears to be a foolish hobby and reading poetry waste of time. I have utmost respect for the poets, past and present and would be proud to be counted among them. Yet, this question hovers in my mind. Correct me if I am wrong.

I love poems! I do know sometimes poems are read to children.

The problem with poetry these days is that everyone is a poet. The poems don't even have to rhyme or make sense. It's given real poetry a bad name.

I like Victorian age poetry. I probably won't make writing poems my main source of income, perhaps just a hobby, I don't like to starve lol

Well, I am a poet and I have come out with my first book of poems. I am a member of many groups at G+ that share my interest in poetry and I also post poetry online. I find people enjoy reading. It is an emotional outlet and through poetry, you can tell others so much. Of course, it will never make me rich but it can certainly give me and others much pleasure.

I still appreciate poems in this world where we seem to be fascinated with things that are really useless.
