I know that the dogs are the best friends to the man kind!
But in India few weeks back some pack of stray dogs reported to have taken the lives of few children in different states.
In Uttar Pradesh and Punjab it is reported that they have killed more than 18 children in all.
People in desperation have killed most of the stray dogs in the nearby villages where these incidents occurred!
Now people have come up with a theory that the dogs were not local stray dogs but they were wild dogs from the nearby jungle!
Stray dogs can be a nuisance, as one of our driver’s son he died of Rabies when a stray dog just given a superficial wound on his leg.
In India we can’t kill stray dogs as they are protected by the Government under several acts.
I am not against the dog, but when they become the enemy to the mankind and their life, that makes me to think twice, if they are our friends or enemies?
How is the stray dog population in the locality you live?
How do they behave?
Do they often attack human beings?
Is Government doing something about them?
Please, respond…your responses as usual will be highly appreciated! Thanks!

Hi Akrao. The stray dogs here are somehow not that dangerous but still not safe to pet them. I am sorry for what happened to those children.

Yes, the stray dogs are very unpredictable as they don't trust the humna beings very easily from the bad experiences what they might have in the past. So it is not advisable to try to keep them as a Pet unless you are confident enough that he/she has gained your full confidence!
I think the kids were treated immediately then, who were left alive and they are safe now! Thanks!

@mlgen1037, In fact these stray are in very big group and it is impossible to separate them and adopt them as a pet and the same time it is not practicable to treat them all as the pets! Thanks!

@AKRao24 I am glad to hear that the children are well. So it means that it is just their defense mechanism? Will it be safe if they will be treated as pets?

Thanks for the information...Yes, mostly the dogs they reciprocate the behavior what they get from the surrounding human beings! A constant irritation to them or harm done to them , makes them to feel that human beings are their enemies are not in the favor of their survival! So they may act accordingly for their existence! Thanks!

No dog is an enemy. They behave badly all because of human beings. They are treated badly. If these strays are adopted they can be fed and loved and that is what is important. I know the moment a dog bites a human being they are instantly killed. That is cruelty.
We had pedigree dogs for a few years but then I realised street dogs need a home too. We have Preiti a stray but she is a perfect lady I have created a video on her.
I HAVE VOUCHED TO SPREAD THE MESSAGE ABOUT HOW PRECIOUS THE STRAY ANIMALS CAN BE IF ONLY THEY GET A HOME THAT LOVES ANIMALS. WATCH THIS VIDEO AND YOU WILL KN...

I know Australia, New Zealand, UK, Ireland and some countries are free from Rabies and they don't allow any Canine population without any proper Vaccination schedule into the country. I understand that there are no stray dogs in this country.
In India because of the SPCA Act 1960, we can't gey rid of stray dogs and they manage to have food in cities and villages from the people and also from wild life.
This act of attacking the children to kill them has occured for the first time and Locals doubt that this can be act by the Wild Dogs which live in nearby jungles.
So far it was unheard anyone getting killed physically by a dog or group of dogs! Thanks @JudyEv !

@AKRao24 There are a good number of street dogs in our town.Although so far they have not posed any threat to locals, but after reading the news about man eater dogs of Sitapur (U.P.) I am worried. At present I have no idea as to what should be done to ensure they never attack human beingst. Killing them,I think, should be the last option.

Yes, these type of incidents they have never happened in the past. Some people believe that this was an act committed by the Wild dogs which entered accidentally, which is also a doubtful situation. like you say it is really a confusing state, prevailing about them. The Government agencies and NGOs involved in saving the dogs must come forward and discharge their duties of neutering the dogs and giving them proper vaccinations. As you said, killing is the last option! Thanks!

@Shivram59 , Yes, I can understand the situation as today we are encroaching the wild land and claiming that land to be ours, which is against the nature...so such things can happen when the colony is situated outskirts of a city or village which is a natural habitat from these wild animals! Thanks!

@AKRao24 Actually nobody knows whether they are dogs or wolves as many farmers claim.Even the government is clueless.Victims who survived after the attacks, too, are not sure about it.The government is doing all it can do, but solution is elusive.

It is a controversial subject for all the time. Common people stood for human beings who got attacked and killed but celebrities and government stood for the animals.
I do agree, both life is important. But it is the duty of the government to provide a safe life for people. It is not fun to get attacked with dogs on the road.
In case of stray dogs, no idea when they become mad as they won't get enough food. Naturally they show their angry to whoever comes infront of them.
I got bite from a pet Dog, just sniffed on my back and I thought it is common as I am on my way to back to home from office. I see those dogs everyday inside the fence. Fortunately the skin got ruptured. But I scared a lot as I was pregnant ( five months) with my younger son.

Yes, big people plead for the right of animals. But nothing comes out concrete in solving the problem. There are many NGOs and Government organizations working for them but with no concrete outcome!
Yes, like you say, when it comes to the threat of human life we have to be strict with them and should be treated strictly. Animals receive the love and affection so long they are liking us, showing us affection and depending on us. But if they act as wild animals like in nature for their survival, then they will also perish as it happens in nature by the enemies, which this case can be a human being, who can be one of the worst enemy to the canine family!
Oh, that was a bad incidence! You must have taken the vaccine immediately then!
Yes, I fully agree with your views dear @Sreekala! Thanks!

That is different thing. The dog may get lost and stray on streets. But I am here talking about the dogs for whom the streets have become their natural habitat. They breed and the young ones born on the street they feel that it is their territory and they may tend to attack on strangers! That is a bad thing! Do you have such dogs in your country?

@ridingbet , Yes you are right! Monkeys are not tame they are much more trouble makers than the dogs! In fact in India Hindus consider Monkey and Cow as a Holy animal and they never do harm to these animals. instead they offer food to them! Thanks!

I see more stray cats running around than stray dogs. I think it is a shame for them. I would love to have a place where they could all go and be inside out of the rain and cold in the winter and from the heat in the summer but I cannot afford to do it. I used to feed stray cats where I used to live. It breaks my heart that they have to run around looking for food and water and not be in a home with someone feeding them and giving them water.

Yes, I understand that, the poor things must get some proper houses to be looked after them. The stray cats are shy and don't want to get mixed with the people around and I don't think that they attack the people like the stray dogs they do. Am I right?

The stray cats did not ever attack me when I went out to feed them. They either run away or stay if they feel comfortable with you. I even had one of the cats I fed walk me to the entrance of my building. No, he or she never wanted to come in.

We don't really have many strays here in the States. There is animal control, regulations, etc. If an animal is stray too long it gets picked up by animal control. As for any animals that kill humans, they are tracked down, captured, and euthanized.

There are not many stray dogs here in the US as most dogs that are stray are reported and picked up by animal control. What there is a problem is is with animals that will break out of their enclosures and run free. They will sometimes kill livestock, and family pets.

I think we can create special dog zones with fences on the outer peripheries of our forests.
The question arises- which forests and the bigger one of funding.
And please no extra income cess on the salaried people.

Here also such incidences never occurred before dear @Jessabuma ! There might have been some stray cases of a dog bite once in a while ....but this has made the people very much against the stray dogs!
Some people believe that they are wild pack of dogs that have accidentally entered the villages and attacked, as the people who have seen the dogs felt that they were looking different then the normal stray dogs!
Bt we will have to be always careful about the stray dogs as they can be a good source of Rabies infection! Thanks!
