I've heard before "If you want to make more money, you should run your own business, don't stay being an employee."
That idea really boosts me up to create a business, but it's so hard to think what type of business I'm going to start since nowadays you'll have lots of competition. Online nor offline business have lots of competition nowadays, it just depends on how you'll promote it, or what is your difference to other existing business or company.
Are you tired of being employed? Why not start your own business?

If you can do it then do your own business. Some people don’t have this option

@Cristi_Ichim Yup referral would be great, but there are times that if they know that you're friend with them, they'll ask discount, or referral earnings when they refer or buy something from your business (based on my experience) worst, they will ask a service for free.

@tech40 of course. But there is also another important aspect in my opinion. You also need many friends in the business world which can link you to other people. What do I mean by that? Let’s suppose that I open a business about constructing roads or designing roads. If there is no one to help me link me to certain people that need my services then I will end up bankrupt as you said. I do know a few young people that opened a similar business but they all had a “linking” person which gave them certain contracts guaranteed

I always feel that if you work that hard as you work when employed for your own business, the results would be great. But it really needs guts along with self motivation and strategies.

When you hear over the news Kmart is closing, I don't believe it's all that glitzy. You got taxes, up and down of business so you'll need customer service department and weather things, so shipping information is important. Don't jump into opening a business without research and expert advice. Owning a business is hard work.

It's easier for people in some countries to start up small businesses. Like in the Philippines most neighborhoods are full of small bizs. Sari-sari shops, garages, delivery trucks, food vendors, smartcard dealers. etc. But in other places like the US there are so many requirements, along with fees that make it nearly impossible for the average person to have a business of any kind.
Back in the 8o's we also had small businesses in our neighborhoods. Beauticians, barbers, etc. but they outlawed them in the early 90s.

I always dreamed of being self employed at something I enjoyed doing. Years have gone by and I have only worked a low grade job for someone else. Now I work part time and draw social security. A home based business would be great for someone retired.

There was a time when I did indeed want to own a business. These days I am not sure I want the aggravation, even though I am sure I might make more money, and certainly working for someone else can be less than desirable. But I do invest quite heavily, and have for years, so I've managed to replace a lot of my income with dividends and proceeds from investments, and so it works out. I enjoy investing and eventually hope to replace my entire income with it.
