TALKING vs TEXTING

When fingers take over tongues.

Once upon a time my neighbor would come knocking on my door; sit down and enjoy a beverage (of a certain nature of course) and we would talk in person for a hours on end. Once upon a time, we as children would play in the streets, bushes and trees for hours on end - enjoying one another's company. Once upon a time our teens would visit each other and working on the others parents for hours on end with frivolous conversation about a potential new boyfriend, or heaven forbid, heartbreak of some sort. Once upon a time our grandparents would sit with the grandchildren, reminiscing about a time not too long ago when children used to respect their parents. Taking the above in context - WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO US AS A SOCIETY JUST TALKING? We have become sort used to technology that it seems we have forgotten the art of interacting with one another as human beings. Instead, we have fallen prey to the art of social TEXTING and this is really sad. It has, in my view, devalued our very existence as we have prioritized being techno experts above being just plain good human beings. How sad that parents buy their infants cheap phones to become - hopefully- technologically advanced. How sad that children, teens in particular, have become entrenched in a world consisting almost entirely of social texting. How sad that even our elders have left their traditional roles behind and are striving more and more to fit into the modern status quo of texting rather than talking. Having said this, I'm not an anti-social media preacher (far from it), rather, I'm a person who believes that there should be equal balance between technology and being human. Why can't both co-exist without endangering the other? These are just my views - anyone else who shares my sentiment or alternatively, WHAT ARE YOUR VIEWS ON TALKING vs TEXTING?

@notewise777 You are right it is very sad how technology has taken over and that people cannot be without their cell phone and are glued to them. I wonder if they sleep with them too. I prefer talking on the phone rather than texting.

@Hannihar Exactly my point. There was a time when such things as engaging with another person in person or telephonically meant TALKING to them in one form or another. Much like you, I also prefer the former.

@id_peace Each to his own I guess - Still though - you don't feel you're missing out on the personal interaction factor?

I still prefer to talk face to face than texting unless it is emergency. Nothing beats seeing the person personally and get to see the expression on the face and the bonding time.

@mlgen1037 I totally agree with you - There's just something about personal human interaction which no mechanical equipment could ever match.

Well both of my children are in college and live to far from home to just come and visit, so texting with them is the only way we contact each other except on holidays when they do get to come home. But My neighbor and I go for a morning walk every day and we talk throughout the walk. So I believe it just depends upon what way works best for each individual.

It's really sad. We are searching humanity within those technologies, little we know that slowly we seem to lose ours.

I'm an introvert who has lots of friends on social media and In person none. I am a very shy person so it's hard for me to make friends. Social media and texting helps alot but your right. Sometimes you can be in the same room as the other person and will still text one another

@Ladanger I agree with you that social media has its benefits, yet I firmly believe that talking in person has so much more value - I do however respect your views

It is sad how technology has changed us. People use mobile phones, laptops or desk top computers with messages. There is a lack of verbal conversation between people. This is a shame.I like talking to my family and friends.

One of the pitfalls of technology. We can share our views and opinions on a whim but we cannot stay still to talk and discuss things.

The younger generation is going to text their friends no matter what. It is no worse than talking on the phone for hours. As far as giving a child a phone to play with. A cell phone is not a toy. I will not allow a child to play with my phone. If they want a cell phone they will have to wait until they are old enough to earn their own money to buy a cell phone and pay the bill.

I prefer talking over texting but people these days are busy in their lives and mobile phones has given us the chance to texting when talking seems less possible.

I prefer to talk. It's just me. Texting has its benefits. But to me texting seems to be just lazy, and says to me, you really don't want to talk to me.
