Oh The Armadillos!

When I travel through Missouri, I always notice a ton of armadillos along the roadside. But it dawned on me. They are all dead. What gives? I swear I don't think I have ever seen an armadillo alive. It makes me wonder if armadillos are simply born this way, alongside the highway, already deader than a door nail, feet kicked in the air. It is a mystery to be sure.

That seems to be the case. They are surely the most ubiquitous of roadkill I see on the side of the road.

Maybe the ones along the Missouri highways were on the way and were just the ones that never made it.

I live in England and the armadillo looks a very unusual animal compared to what we have in Europe. It is so sad they are killed my cars driving along the road. It is annoying they don't stay off the road where they can live safely. In England drivers are careful when going through an area which has dears.

Roadkill is very common. I see everything from deer to raccoons and skunks, armadillos...you name it. The roads are very dangerous for animals and unfortunately they don't know the dangers.

The roadkill in Tasmania is different to the roadkill in WA too. Here there are a lot of smaller, darker animals whereas when I come from it's nearly all kangaroos.

@porwest They seem to have no idea and will just cannon into cars sometimes.

Never thought about that, but we do see a lot of deer along the highways. Just as sad to see kangaroos. I suppose it is inevitable. The animals just aren't aware of cars it seems.

@JudyEv Sad about any animal getting hit by cars. It is what it is though I suppose.

@porwest In my state, it's possums and deer. Seems armadillos seek roadkill and become roadkill themselves.

@dgobucks226 Roadkill overall is quite ubiquitous here as well. All the fare you mentioned with the inclusion of many raccoons. That may explain the fate of the armadillos. lol

Odd. They must get hit a lot. Wonder why. I saw two alive ones, up here in Minnesota. Odd looking things. I thought they were only in the south
