Regardless of my income status, I have always hated wasting food, or letting it go bad, which sometimes happens. Well... The other day I had made some spaghetti, and after having a few leftovers, I had just enough sauce left for a snack, not a full meal. When I was deciding what I wanted to make for dinner, I chose to make a meatloaf. I have not had this in a while. While I was driving home from the market, I was hoping that I did not forget anything. Then it hit me... Instead of topping my meatloaf with tomato sauce (which I normally do)...i would add the leftover spaghetti sauce. It's already seasoned, and it would be a perfect combination, since both meals were made with ground beef. This was the first time I ever did this combination, and it turned out quite well. I love coming up with new innovative ideas, especially when it comes to cooking my meals. I don't like eating the same thing over and over again... And if I do...many times I will add a new and different twist to it. So the next time you are thinking about throwing out that extra bit of sauce, that you don't know what to do with...try using it as topping to your main dish, and/or casserole. You will be surprised how good it turns out!

I never waste food, I always find a way to recycle, even we almost never have leftovers.

The funny thing is... I have always been afraid to try anchovies, and I have no idea why. LOL

Very sound advice. I was raised not to waste food and the look on my Granny's face would say if all if a grandchild wasted food in her presence. My husband's side of the family is not like that. They don't discourage it at all. It irks me to no end when they let the kids get away with wasting an apple or a banana.

Mom was like your Granny, if we had food on our plate we were expected to eat it no matter what .... of course we were never allowed to simply take as much as we wanted at one time, she said if we ate what was on our plates and wanted more we just needed to ask for seconds. Food was never wasted and I don't waste food either.

We don't do leftovers, but I'm glad you enjoyed the meatloaf with the sauce

Being single and on a very small budget, I have do to leftovers. Besides... I think they taste better the second go round. The flavors had a chance to fuse more together.

I freeze bits of leftover sauce for these types of things.
