I've got a jar of... (flour)

I've got a jar of flour but I also have a jar of nothing. The pictured jar (cannister, container, what have you) is something I've been pondering for the past few days. I've got two of them and I'm not sure what to do with the empty one.
I didn't buy them so I am not sure what their intended purpose is if anything. A mylotter suggested I post a picture here and ask for suggestions.
The purpose doesn't have to be food related. I considered putting lights in it and using it as lamp but I am not sure about that either. Right now it sits on the top shelf of the linen closet in the bathroom.
What would you put in this jar? Would you decorate it (the outside) or leave it plain?
Oh and no I'm not putting sugar in it.

That would be an awful lot of pasta. It's a considerably large jar. We don't eat that much pasta. I maybe make spaghetti once a month and stuffed shells is a lot less often.
I do like the idea of highlighting it with lace like fabrics, especially around the rim of the jar. One person mentioned using white lights which would be very pretty.

@ScribbledAdNauseum White or yellow lights would be both pretty.

@LadyDuck I also like the idea of purple lights, it's my favorite color.

@morgoodie I stay away from pinterest, I'd end up buying too much.

@ScribbledAdNauseum There are other things you can do with buttons besides sewing them. You can make art with them and it turns out really cute. I have a Pinterest board for button art.

I would leave it plain, it is pretty. I have several kinds of flour. I have lots of glass jars, both pickle jars and actual canisters. In the bathroom you could fill it with a homemade bath soak--epsom salts, baking soda, sea salt and essential oils. Cheap but relaxing, put a cup in your tub.

I do think it's pretty as it is. I thought about putting a pretty tan lace or other material around parts of it just to give it an accent. I have collected quite a few jars here lately as well. Coconut oil jar, regular jars for like pickles and then a few glass yogurt jars that I intend to put beeswax candles in.
The bathtub here isn't really available at the moment. I could manage it with filling it with water from the kitchen tap but that would be too tedious. It's still a good idea with a homemade bath soak though.
I hardly ever use the flour that's in the other one. The last time I used it was when I made biscuits. I don't do much baking and I have made cube steak in a long time. I don't make my own homemade dumplings, and I haven't made a roux in a long time.

First thing that came to mind was to fill it with rose petals fresh ones I mean or other flowers.
That´s if you don´t find some nice cookies and put them in there instead.

I thought you could fill them with a mixture of wild flowers like Sweet Alyssum if you have them there as they smell so lovely.
Things like that.
Its better than those air freshener things for me.
I love Sweet Alyssum its wild and free and it fills the room with a nice scent.

@lovinangelsinstead21 I do not use conventional air sprays either. I do use soy wax melts and intend to make my own air spray. That way there aren't bad chemicals in the air.

Filling it with fresh petals would be really lovely. That would be quite a lot of petals though.

@ScribbledAdNauseum You could put a light on the lid then fill the jar with all those items.

@velvet53 I hadn't thought of attaching a light to the lid itself but that's a good idea. I have another jar that I need to give a good wash. It has a bear that my mother crocheted a dress for. I have a string of lights in it as well but I don't turn it on.

That would be very pretty, with the colored rocks / pebbles / what have you. I'd love to see what they would look like with a bunch of quartz in there.

The options are really endless. I would probably put sugar in it. Sorry I had to throw that in there. You could put craft items in it if you are a crafty person. Lights would be cute as well as decorating the outside of it. How about colored sand?

I hadn't thought of colored sand, that would be quite a lot of colored sand. I suppose I could break it up with decorative gems which we have an abundance of here. Well, atleast I think we do.
I'm not really a crafty person, atleast not in that sense.
We hardly ever use sugar here. I know, I know, I live in the south but I maybe make sweet tea for one or two weeks a year. I don't use sugar in my hot teas very much either.
I don't bake sweets. Sugar just isn't in high demand in this household.

@morgoodie These are all really really great ideas. The Terrarium thing is probably the best idea. We used to have a lot of seashells here, I'm not sure what happened to them. It would be cute to do a beach theme type thing for the jar.
I might send a picture of it to my best friend and see if she could use it. She might have a million other ideas for it herself.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I was just joking about the sugar because you NO you weren't going to put sugar in it. You could use it for pastas if you have a lot of the same kinds. Cereal? Rice? Make a terrarium out of it. I guess it would be sort of big for colored sand. Memory jar? Write down things you want to remember for the year and then read them at the beginning of next year.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I'd decorate it and make it into a flower vase.

@allen0187 I don't think I took a good picture of this. Everyone seems to be suggesting things that would mean I'd have to fill it up considerably. I should have put a regular jar beside it.
Flowers would be nice but I'd have to put a considerable amount of soil in it.

Hmm... well, the design seems to be pretty plain. So I might consider decorating it. If it had a nice design, I'll leave it as is. As for what to put in it... hmm... how about coins? I don't really know. Haha!
I just looked over the other responses and coins were already mentioned, as well as sand... how about marshmallows? Lol!

@ScribbledAdNauseum Well, you did say it was a big container so I thought... (though I'm not sure exactly how big it is) maybe they won't be too much especially if they're the big fluffy kind that might take up a lot of space. Just have to make sure to keep it down to maybe one marshmallow a day.

This is quite a big jar to put cookies in. Even if I only put a few, it would be a bit of a nuisance on the counter.
I may end up using it to store beeswax in. I want to start making my own lotions, etc.. and this would hold quite a bit.

Yes white lights would look really pretty. If I can't think of anything for it I will probably get rid of it. I say probably because I have a habit of convincing myself to wait "just a little longer".
Hoarding runs through my veins.

I tend to buy the "boil in bag" rice or rice a roni type. As for pasta, we just don't eat as much. In fact, if I can get away with it, I want to try to get my family to eat "zoodles".

I've used a mayo jar for flour before as well.
I also have a plastic container for my flour.

an empty cannister or jar sounds like a good container for cookies or biscuits, if not then nuts or peas.

I don't use paper money so that wouldn't work for me. However I like your idea. As I told Sharon above, it would feel so nice to have that much money accumulated in the jar.
