i decided not to post it

i started typing a topic on notepad, but abandoned it. i wrote a long private message to a mylotter instead. it was long because i had to describe the problem and solution. it's annoying because it seems to happen monthly. he answered, and i looked up images of the problem part on google. so what was the topic i was reluctant to post about? the erratic toilet flush and the tank not filling up. i guess i was hesitant it might be gross. but also because i might not really understand the answers/solutions since i'm not mechanically-inclined. what can you fix around the house? what topics would you not post about?

@hereandthere Philippines is a democratic country...why you have fear of speaking about your country. You shouldn't have if there is any truth.

Maybe you need muriatic acid to cleanse the pipes. Our flush tank had been broken for couple of years now. But my mom just don't like having it fix. In fact I wanted the tank change. I don't think it's gross. Sad for me because that post off yours could have HELP me with my tank problem. But as for the flush tank in my toilet I was able to compromise..Well, just literally adding water just to flush it better. My problem is that I lack the money to get everything fix.

jj's answer was "Sounds like the floating shut-off valve isn't closing properly. If it keeps running, gently pull up on the float and see if it stops. If it does, you probably need a new part for that."

You can post about the toilet, not working properly no problem to me. :) I don't post about religion, politics, history...

I do hope the answer to your PM helped. People here are very knowledgeable. If you need to know something there is always someone on here who knows the answer.

@JudyEv however, some make you scratch your head. i remember @jolietjake writing about a renter (a young man) who doesn't even know what a plunger is and how to use it on a clogged kitchen sink. correct me if i'm wrong, jj.

@hereandthere Exactly! This happens to me all the time and I am much more tolerant than I used to be because I have a better understanding of how others can live very differently from how I do.

Is that about the fittings inside the water tank? (as in the flapper or the float?)

here's what jolietjake said: "Sounds like the floating shut-off valve isn't closing properly. If it keeps running, gently pull up on the float and see if it stops. If it does, you probably need a new part for that."

@hereandthere Yes, I think JJ is right. Raising the float should normally stop the water from running as it closes the inlet valve. If water still continues running after the stop level has been reached, then your flapper is the problem. Sometimes dirt accumulates on the flapper resulting to the passage of water into the tube going into the bowl. Sometimes this could be resolved by just wiping off the accumulated dirt on the falpper and the tube opening or you need to replace the flapper if water continues to pass through after the cleaning.

I see. I think it's okay to post it. It may look gross but you're looking for solutions here so if you did post it, you might find a good answer.

I refrain from "why someone is bugging me" and I try to limit my "bodily functions" posts. Oh, and I will not tell you about my sister's long history, at least not in detail.

there are personal topics that i just anonymize. there are bodily functions posts that i skipped immediately. sometimes posts about family help because we realize similarities and get useful advice.

Actually, our toilet flusher too is not working anymore. But since it has been fixed before already and got un-operational already, we just let it be. Anyway, there are lots of water and we just flush it with a small pail of water.

Ahahaha! So... you were going to post about a toilet issue and decided against it, opting to ask a friend in private instead? Haha. I guess it's a wise decision. If you're unsure about how a post is going to be received, perhaps it's better to keep it private. I'm not really sure what topics I won't post about. Probably those that are religious or political in nature. Those are always controversial and can result in giving you a headache. Then again, there is that saying 'never say never'. Perhaps it is possible to discuss topics of that nature. I'm just not in a hurry to try it now. Hahaha.

i sent a message to jolietjake instead. then when i checked the responses here, it seems other mylotters have experienced the same and shared their solutions.

could it be that the message to a fellow mylotter is regarding your problem about computers? i believe this site is great not only for having virtual friends, but also share our knowledge to others.

no, it was about the toilet flush acting up every month. i decided to message jj instead of posting about it. but yes, we learn from each other here.

I never post about politics and religion, also sports because I do not like. I think that all the rest can make an interesting discussion. We can learn from the hints the others suggest. I had an erratic toilet flush when we lived in France, I think to remember that I adjusted the "fill valve", there was also a clip that I moved to allow the water to flow inside the tank. If you check online I am sure you can find a YouTube video.

the valve controls in the bowl might be in trouble. Mine got that way before and a plumber came to replace the torn/broken valve. Cost me $100 (dollars) but my toilet has worked very well since.

I guess as a woman, I know nothing much about fixing broken stuffs at home but as a person, I know exactly how to help someone fix a broken heart. No, I'm just kidding my friend, I am just trying to cheer you up despite of your problem. Don't take it seriously go ask some help to someone who knew and never tire yourself wondering how to solve the issue.
