Don't ya hate it...

I went to the pain doc on Friday. The PA there suggested that I might try the diclofenac potassium instead of the diclofenac sodium for my headaches. She told me that it came in a powdered form. Saturday I went to pick up my medicines and the diclofenac potassium was in pill form. I go home and research it and, there it is, corn. I call the pharmacy and tell him that it has corn in it and it is clearly labeled on my records that I'm allergic to corn products. I take it back. Monday I call the doctor's office, they said they said they would take care of it. Today I called the pharmacy and they say they have no record, so I call the doctor's office again. They call the pharmacy and they said that - first they never got it, and second that they couldn't do the powdered form, they would have to talk to the compounding pharmacy. This sets off alarms in my head, because now we are talking about grinding up the pills, and that isn't want I want. I jump online and there it is, the powdered form that you mix with liquid and - no corn products! The doctor's office calls back and tell me that the compounding pharmacy told them that it would still have corn, so I tell her what I found. Don't ya hate having to do the work for them?

oh wow, you would say that maybe, just maybe they would know what they're doing. I hate situations like these, safe to say that my gp is quite useless without any means to offend him. My pharmacist is doing a better job than him, without me having to pay for a 50 euro visit every time I step foot into his office. I am studying to become a practitioner myself, so I pray I won't do these mistakes, and I will be able to cure myself without having to ask for anyone's advice lol. Hope you get better soon.

Sadly, "better" isn't something that I'm going to get. Managed is probably the best I can hope for. Still, my GP is okay, he knows and does his best to work around my corn allergy. I have a few issues with the pharmacy, one of the pharmacists is really nice, but she wasn't working this last weekend, I've never seen this guy before.

@Anaeu92 he was an older man, I just think he's the sort that really believes in food allergies.

Wow, not all pharmacist are created equal. I love the one we have now, they'll bend over backwards to get what we need. Hope you get what you need. Actually by now I hope you have already gotten it.

I like one of the regular pharmacists, but this guy was probably of the kind that doesn't believe in food allergies, at least not the uncommon ones like I have.

@Namelesss so true, but I'm afraid that my allergy to corn is on the way to being bad enough to stop me breathing. As it is, it causes my inflammations to get way worse and cause me dizziness and other forms of acute pain.

@ElicBxn Seems the only allergic symptoms they care about are the ones that stop you breathing (permanently) or huge rashes and hives. But there are a lot more symptoms than that and pain anywhere is not something anyone wants.

It's a good thing you're on top of things. Too bad other people aren't.

i wonder sometimes if they even read the records anymore.for awhile they kept trying to prescribe my mom stuff she couldn't have.if she'd lived by herself, she probably would have taken it without question.

I think that my favorite pharmacist at the store probably would've caught it, but she wasn't there. Just so you know, she's also our guy friend's favorite, of course she's pretty, that might have something to do with his liking her... The reason I checked was because the PA talked about the powdered form, she knows about my allergies too.

The internet has been a great thing for me. Before that it was the Physician's Desk Reference - and I'd have to go to the library to read it since I couldn't afford a copy back then.

It seems that the pharmacist is a liar, they do not even check before replying to the doctor.

I'm sure that the pharmacist didn't lie about not getting the order from the doctor's office, because I'm sure that the regular ones were there on Monday. We'll have to see if they can get the stuff I need now.
