Do you like to get sympathy while suffering?

As far as I know, suffering people hate to get sympathy from others. They want others to behave with them normally. My dad is also getting irritated when my relatives are showing sympathy to him because of his ankle pain. It is making him loose his confidence. If you were in his place, how would you have reacted?

If I were sick, I do not want people to pity me or feel any sympathy. I just want them to still treat me as a normal and healthy person. It lessens the pity I feel for myself.

Yes, and too much sympathy makes me lose my confidence.

@deba12 Exactly. It is not good as it lowers self-esteem.

When I have health problems, I only tell few people, relatives and close friends. I hate talking about diseases! Most people only ask how someone feels so that they can talk about their own problems.

@deba12 I wouldn't really know.. as only thing I have dealt with is depression, anxiety and loss of a child (by the state).

It's good only when your suffering is temporary. But sympathy for a long term disease is annoying.

I don't mind sympathy but when people begin to coddle me I find it difficult to deal with.

I think it's very human sense to feel like that, but generally I don't like others to see me at my lowests.
