Visualization

I have depression, anxiety attacks and, PTSD. Have had for many years. There are days that I just sleep. Others I am up and after it all day. But, when I am at my very worst I find that visualizing a better situation or seeing myself home and okay help get me through. How do you handle bad situations and have you practiced positive visualizations?

I deal with depression and anxiety as well. And PTSD. I find myself to be like a see-saw. Up and down. I have my good days, which lately have been less and less. I do find myself sleeping more I also find myself eating more and not eating the right foods. I also have diabetes. My mind constantly thinks of better ways and better days. But the body does not always want to join in. I listen to music, watch TV and come online for some stimulation. Otherwise I am like an object just existing in this world. Which sometimes seems surreal.

Do you have derealization?

@dya80dya No. That I don't have. But I do get into moods real deep at times. I know what's real and what's not. But sometimes I would like to be in a make believe world. A place where I can be truly free.

@inertia4 I understand. Derealization is when you feel like in a dream. It's the worst symptom of anxiety.

Not in the way you have. When I am in a stressful or depressing situation I try to just daydream. It's been a coping mechanism for me for years. It doesn't help as much when I am feeling anxious, but daydreaming (making up stories in my head) has helped with the other things. I've been hearing about ASMR lately. Apparently it is just a sound, something normal like a pencil being sharpened or the sound of cards in a bike wheel. I think it's supposed to be relaxing.

I sort of do the same thing. A nice sound like a brook or flowing water is relaxing.

My loved ones don't support me. They can't understand me. I live in a negative environment. I can't get out so I don't have friends. But thank you for your advice.

Sorry to hear this. You can't find a 'happy place' in your mind where you can go?

@celticeagle I like nature. A beach or a forest. Maybe I can go there. Just in my mind.

I have fibromyalgia with depression, anxiety, chronic pain, sleep disorder, etc. etc. I slept for 9 hours last night and had to drag myself out of bed. I wanted to continue sleeping but it was noon so time to get up. The day is half over. I don't do visualization. I have tried meditating but my mind just can't stay focused on not thinking about anything LOL! I prefer to write in a journal when I am upset. And prayer helps me too.

I have done this, but not on a regular basis. My anxiety is never really overwhelming though.

Visualization is very first step but i use the formula saying just do it before your thought takes turn and do what you like to do no matter whatever it takes

I don't visualize. I pray, do work, do chores, clip coupons, volunteer and do something good for someone else.

that must be hard. I also have depression and anxiety, and I do not practice visualisation, does it help? and how do you do it? I keep a gratitude journal and I go to therapy, that kind of helps

Close your eyes and picture something in your mind. Something pleasant.
