And he's off!

My husband just left for the train station in Trenton, New Jersey's capital. From there he will catch a train to Washington DC. He has a meeting there tomorrow morning so it is easier for him to go down tonight and stay over rather than rushing to get there first thing. Then tomorrow night he is catching a flight from Baltimore, MD to Asheville, NC where his parents live. He is going to spend the weekend visiting with his dad for Father's Day. On Monday morning he will drive to Charlotte, NC (about 2 or 3 hours away) for work meetings that he has that day and also on Tuesday. He flies back home to either Philadelphia, PA or Newark, NJ on either Tuesday night or Wednesday morning and then he will have to take a train back to Trenton to get his car. Are you tired yet just from reading that? It seems like absolute chaos to me but my husband likes to travel and I know that he is looking forward to spending time in Asheville (at the breweries) with his dad. That means I am home alone with the cats and the parrot for awhile but I'll be okay. I don't mind being by myself.

Wow that is quite a trip to make. Atleast he'll be able to visit with his father. I've got family in Asheville, NC myself. Great aunts and uncles, 2nd cousins and the like. A few came down to eat with us not too long ago and ran into some traffic about 20 minutes away from the restaurant. Hoping he has safe travels throughout the journey.

@NJChicaa You are the beach girl and him the mountain boy huh? The mountains run through my blood apparently. I've done ancestry and no matter what side (father's or mother's) all of my greats and great greats hailed from the mountains of NC, Virginia or Tennessee. I haven't been to Asheville in many years, I've heard it's grown up a lot since I was last there and it's a very foodie and artsy place now.

@ScribbledAdNauseum It is like THE place to move to lately. Everyone in the development where my in-laws live comes from somewhere OTHER than NC, let alone that area. We've walked through some of it, driven through some of it, etc. Honestly, I think it is okay. Maybe I'm jaded because I live smack between New York City, Philadelphia, and Atlantic City. I've always been exposed to happening things. My husband loves the quiet of the mountains plus all of the breweries in Asheville as well as seeing his parents, of course. Me? Um, I love my in-laws and their house is gorgeous. One visit every 2 or 3 years is enough for me. Give me the beach, some seagulls, and flat land. The twists and turns on some of the roads. . . nope. Plus bears. Oh and when we DROVE there (13 hours each way--wanted to kill myself) there were runaway truck ramps. THAT was NOT comforting! Yeah, no, this Jersey girl will stick to the Shore.

Thanks. I appreciate it! I've been to Asheville twice now and I think it is nice enough but I'm not dying to visit it as often as my husband. I get a bit claustrophobic being in the mountains and so far away from the ocean.

@NJChicaa why do I say that.Nothing personal. It is nice that he has some time with family. Do you have time when you want to go and see someone there. I believe this is a good relationship. We do this at time.To take a break and the marriages is stronger. Did I upset something here.Hope not.

@amadeo I'm not upset at all. There are no kids here so we are both free to do what we want. Of course I support him going to see his parents this weekend. I'm home alone for most of the day anyway so just adding on the night hours isn't too much of a stretch. If there were children the traveling would be a different story. For us, though, not a problem.

My husband's going away only on rare occassions and I hate it when he's gone

Well I'm independent and spend most of the day by myself anyway so it isn't too much of a stretch except for the weekend.

Yes, heavily dizzy by now, as I like a quieter schedule. Enjoy your time alone and yes, you are entitled to good foods even if you are alone.

I bring her out of her cage into the kitchen all the time anyway. He just avoids her. Everyone has learned to avoid her--human and cat--except me. She loves me.
