Rita and Doris and Percy

We continue to see interesting place and road names and here are the latest. I didn’t get a photo of ‘Last Road West’ although I thought that was pretty creative.
Another one I liked was Spiky Bridge. If you look closely, you can see the stones set on edge on top of the bridge to form a row of spikes. Bridges and stone fences in Ireland often had this type of finish to them. I gather the intention was to discourage livestock from clambering over the fences.
And wouldn’t Rita and Doris have been pleased to have a reserve named after them? And I wonder if Percy is any relation?

Good old Rita and Doris- I wonder what they ever did to deserve that? Don't think I should speculate--haha!

@JudyEv Well that would be the best reason- should have included their last names cause it sounds a little funny this way. Although we have streets here named after the builders kids, I would imagine.

@YrNemo found this link which explains all. How cool is this? Maybe I'll do another discussion so I can share it with everyone.
A special visitor was called in to help celebrate this year's Clean Up Australia Day event at Coles Bay.

I like creative place names too. One time when my sister was showing us some large windmills up close we saw a street sign that had my father's first and middle name name on it(German and fairly unusual)..his grandmother had that family name, and they hailed from that area orginally.

Wow, that would have been an exciting moment. It's nice when places are named after local identities.

If you read Darcy Nemo's response she has a link about the conservation efforts of the two ladies.

England, Ireland, Scotland - bits of them are all here. It is much wetter than many parts of the mainland.
