I think Greeting others is a very important thing and it should be done to maintain good relations with everyone.
Some likes to greet by saying Hi, Hello, Others like to Greet by saying Good morning, Good Afternoon, Evening etc and some others like to just shake hands or even just a smile or something like that.
I like to shake hands and sometimes hug as well if they are more closer to me.
What about you? How You Like To Greet Your Friends? Please share.

High five or do a cheek-to-cheek greeting accompanied with a hug.

@thesupersingh, yes you can if you do the first move!
Just a reminder: Beware to those conservative and unsocialized people, they might slap you.

I guess hi and hello is acceptable anywhere. Hugs are common to close friends and families.

I think that that is cultural. We greet our friends here giving them a hug and a kiss ion the right cheek.

I believe it depends on how much you know a person. Hugs here as a way of greeting is kind of awkward with friends, and usually, grandparents are the only ones greeted that way. (haha) Anyway, for us here, we say "What's up" or simply "Sup?" or even "Hey, how are you?" accompanied with a smile and the conventional shaking of hands/ you could even fist bump among friends. As @marguicha says, it depends on the culture, really.
