This is a short story by Miguel Estrada. I downloaded this book to my Kindle app for free. I am a little torn about whether I liked it or I didn't. When I started reading it, I thought that it was written for young kids. The English is very simple and easy to read. I found out that English isn't the authors first language so this is why it is written like that. There is bad language in it, so if that deters you from reading a book then this isn't one for you. However, I could probably count the number of swear words on my hands.
The story is about an 11 year old, who is faced with the fact that his parents aren't getting along and threatening divorce. He decides the way to keep them together is to run away from home. However, he then gets kidnapped and the rest of the story is about his escape from the house and his kidnappers. There is a twist at the end that I didn't see coming. This was a very fast read and there was enough action to keep you reading. When I started it, I didn't realize it was a short story. I don't pay too much attention to length of books.
Have you heard or read anything by this author? If so, what did you think about him?

The name sounds familiar but I am not sure. The book almost seems like something you would see on a subreddit that I sometimes visit. It's an interesting read and I like the twist that it has in it. The fact that it's a short story intrigues me because I wonder just how much he has jam packed into it.
There was something else I was going to say but it slipped my mind, maybe I'll remember by the time you comment back.

It did seem fast paced and it didn't drag out like some stories can. In ways, the shortness of the book makes it hard to get involved with the main characters. It was almost like entering the story into the middle of it and there is the event leading up to the main event already before you get introduced to the characters. Of course, a short story doesn't have much time to get you involved with the characters I suppose. It was just a weird start.

@morgoodie A measure of a good author is one that can make a short story seem like a long novel. I"ve dabbled in writing, it's a lot harder than it looks to get things just right.
I don't know how I feel about stories that start you off in the middle. Sometimes they are good, other times they just seem to drone on and one and on.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I just didn't feel close to the characters, so I didn't feel the boy's fear and other emotions like I usually will in a longer novel. I think it is still worth the read though.

This looks like the kind of book I would enjoy but I haven't heard of the author. I am more likely to read stories that are short.

I had never heard of the author either. It was free, so I said why not. It is only like 58 pages I think it said. Won't take you long to get through that.

@sprite1950 Oh dear...well in that case it may take you quite a while. Good thing it is a short book then.

Most definitely. I am sure someone could do a lot with this book to turn it into the next horror movie. Who knows maybe one day it will happen.

@morgoodie She's lesser known. I actually did an interview with her recently if you care to have a look. I always like to help writers out there just trying to find their place in a very tough business.
writing as Ivan S. Graves I recently had the opportunity to chat a bit with horror writer R.K. Finnell about her recently released col...
