I Hate When That Happens

So, from time to time Walmart has a 'bargain bin' of sorts for a variety of herbs and spices. This time they were in the bin for 98 cents each. I perused the bin a bit and saw that they had ground ginger in there, and it just so happened I needed some ground ginger as I had recently run out.
After I got home and checked my receipt though, the ginger was not supposed to be in the bin, and was actually $2.48.
I'll admit I could have complained and tried to get my money back, but I did not. That price for the ginger was not awful compared to what I normally pay and 98 cents did seem awfully cheap for it.
Either way. I hate when that happens.

Yes, things like that are not pleasant. When I lived in the states I often picked up spices in the dollar stores. I am no returning to the US so I will have to rethink my strategies when shopping.

That seems to happen a lot around here, and same at Dollar general when I worked there the price would change on something but not ring up that way, and that is corporates fault.

@hillhjill I think it was just someone who tossed it in there. Employee or not. Ugh.

I have learned to scan my own groceries now so I can check the prices as I go, sorry you didn't get it for 98 cents but $2.48 isn't that bad either. We were in the store the other day and someone had left a package of shrimp on one of the canned shelves, what a waste of food. It was warm by the time I saw it.

@cintol They probably think they are sticking it to the man. I think most of it is that people simply do not understand how business works. It's like when the left says "Tax the rich, tax the corporations." That really means tax the little guy because businesses do not pay expenses. They recoup their expenses in the form of higher prices. People just don't get it.

Oh, that irks me as well. The sad part is that those people, who are too lazy to put a perishable back, are usually also the same people who complain about how much they have to pay for things...and that action causes the prices to go up for everyone.

Me too. Thus I got into the habit of watching the little window of prices and speak up...I thought it was $1? Then the cashier will check and you can say you don't want it. Or you can ask for a price check and find out first, then you can decide whether to buy it or not. I've learned to do these things and check before I leave my packages to make sure I have everything I paid for. I usually check with the price checked Walmart has around the store too. Once I didn't, and the item was way more than the price that was listed on the shelf.

Not really, I believe. It's up to us to be alert or just ask for a price check before they ring you up, this they do happily. If you find anything you didn't anticipate, like or changed your mind about, visit customer service and they'll be happy to help you. Once my Ocuvite coupon just didn't get accepted at checkout, so I said to the cashier I'll go to customer service. She was relieved.

@oahuwriter Sometimes that's the case. But there are some store operators who know customers don't pay close attention to what's rung up, and if they get to keep some of that overcharging...it makes up for other things. Although I am not suggesting it is always intentional.

Since you found the price reasonable it was not worth going through the trouble of dealing with it.

Now, now! you know that .98 bin is only for the one brand. I bet you got the good name brand for $2.48. We have a small grocery chain here, Food outlet, and they always have .99 spices, they do have ginger. I stocked up one month so I am good for a while.
I grow my own basil, mint and sage. I have sowed seed for a couple more and waiting. Parsley is one.

It seems to happen alot. I was shopping and had a tank top with a 8.99 price on it but was on the clearance rack and everything on it was 50 % off so i was like ok its cute ill buy it and i can wear it at work too which is great. When i got to the register it was full price and i was not happy about it and my mom ended up getting it for me as i was not going to pay the full price for it at all. I usually only shop on clearance racks and try to go to stores i know that have good prices to get my money worth out of stuff.
