Our duck

We only hatched one duck who has grown up super attached to us. She now lives outside but is so tame that she eats food from my hand! She is also super smart and has learned to knock on the front door to ask for more food! She is so cute! The duck is still a wee bit too young to lay any eggs so we are waiting for July when she is due to start laying. We can't wait for some duck eggs as she's been free loading this entire time!

Yes Jessa, I love this duck so much, she is super cute! Ducks are usually sociable animals and need other ducks to be around with, but as we only have one she got really attached to us! Very sweet!

How are you doing up there in the North? Can you sleep at all what with the light nights? What has happened with you and the duck is called 'imprinting'. This article may interest you:

@MALUSE Yes, when we only hatched one duckling, someone warned us to keep our distance - but she was so cute I couldn;t resist seeing and playing with her. And to be honest, I quite like being her Mummy! xx I would rather have loving ducks that love me than apathetic ducks that get scared. . . :D Mind, I kinda come to love her back - somehow I don't think this one will be our Christmas dinner. . . Thanks for the article, really good read!

As for the light - it is really difficult! We didn't sleep too well last night. It is super quiet up here though, so we take what we can! Still need to get some better blackout curtains - that should make a bit of a difference! :)

Wow, nice that now that ducks also understand humans and like other pets connect with us. Is it a white colour duck?

Hi Avinash, no it is a Khaki Campbell, so a greenish brownish colour - really pretty and loves us all so much. She keeps wondering into the house as this is where she grew up and thinks she belongs in the house with the dogs. She really is one of the pack! x

@avi256 It is amazing indeed! We have a free-range duck and free-range chickens and the dogs simply ignore them! But then they really go after the wild rabbits, trying to catch and hunt them! It's amazing how they know the difference. . . I would have thought that if dogs had a strong prey drive, it would apply to all small animals, but no - these two can tell the difference! Such great dogs!
