Obscure Word Of The Day Abasement

Not to be confused with having 'a basement', abasement is a form of grovelling and servility by bowing and scraping and even humiliating yourself to curry favour from someone percieved to be of a higher standing, or a more powerful position.
Some powerful figures may surround themselves with grovellers, eager to lie down in puddles so the boss can walk over them without getting wet feet, while others may feel that a display of self-abasement is repulsive.
It is not a practice I could ever subscribe too, or expect others to do for me.

Repulsive is right. I would hate to be that person.

My guess is that Senor Trump has plenty of members in his cabinet that practice the above!

I suppose it comes from French "abaisser", to lower, to push down. The powerful figures who love those who are ready to lie down are not good leaders. They need "yes men" and not a good stuff ready to help and correct their mistakes. I see one like this right now.
