What kind of aunt are you?

My nephew will turn one next week. First birthdays are special in my family. My brother and my sister-in-law will throw him a children’s party. They’ll have cakes and balloons and games for the kids. They’ll invite the kids of their friends and most of our relatives. My nephew won’t probably remember the details since he’s still a baby. The adults however will surely take many pictures for him to look at when he’s old enough. Anyway, I sent money to my brother for the birthday cake. It will be my present. It’s a special Boss Baby (the movie) inspired birthday cake so it’s kinda pricey. Last November, my other nephew also turned one. I paid for his birthday cake too. I think I’m the ‘Birthday Cake Aunt’ now. Hahaha How about you? What’s your experience with children’s parties? P.S. The photo was my other nephew’s birthday cake. It was a Mickey Mouse theme cake with cupcakes.

Cute themes for all the parties. I'm the aunt that likes to spoil my niece and nephew :) Shower them with clothes and toys!

I spend much money on Basty's 2nd year Birthday. Because on his first day, we only bought him cakes and ice cream when it should be "Bongga". We celebrated his Birthday in one of the Resort here where there is a swimming pool for kids. Father was the one who bought Lechon, and I am for the other food. His Parents did not contribute any cents for the party. I even was the one who paid for her Mother's relatives entrance, imagine that. Thank God because, during that day, I received my SSS pension already.

We especially celebrate first birthdays in our family. I have one nephew from my brother and he is also my godson so I have celebrated his birthday all of his life, of course, the fact that his birthday is also our anniversary reminds me every year lol By the way he is 45.

Hmmm... well, your title causes me a problem. I've never been female and don't really want to lose my man-bits to give that a try. When my daughter was little, we had parties (not just birthday) every year. I took tons of pictures of her and all the other kids we invited. (When the kids came for other parties they always ask to see the photos I took in previous years. I'm glad I kept the negatives! Some had to be re-printed several times!) Believe me, there are worse things to be than the 'Birthday Cake Aunt'. Think, I know one little girl who was always so happy to come to Pretty's birthday parties because she never had one of her own. The year she told us that, Pretty and I hosted a birthday party for her and her parents and siblings... *shake my head* The little girl was the only one who showed up. Her parents dropped her off and left. (They didn't even wait for me to get to their car to say hello... ) I called and ask if she could stay the night so we could take her to a movie. That was another first for her. Why are there parents like that???

@sol_cee I simply don't understand how anyone could have a little (or bigger) child and not do this kind of thing for them... *shake my head* Thank you.

@sol_cee We have parties from time to time for the grand kids or the kids when they hit a milestone birthday. Depends on what the kids need me to buy, they usually have a list and then we each pick something to contribute to the party.

I get along with my nieces and nephews. They trust me enough to confide their problems which they might hesitate to tell their own parents. I'm not only aunt but godmother to some. Which means more expense.

As an aunt, whenever my nieces have their birthdays, I buy them gifts. Usually, they are clothes, which they really like. Indeed, here in the Philippines, we believe that when a child turns 1, we have to give him a party even if he isn't aware of it yet. What is important indeed, is when he turns older, he will get to see the pictures. The next birthday that we have to give a party also is when they turn 7 years old.

@sol_cee We gave our daughter a small party in a restaurant when she turned 1. But when she turned 7, it's already a bit bigger party complete with lots of foods and lechon.

I often either bought toys for the birthday boy or girl, with a receipt inside so that they could exchange if they wanted to, or checked with the mother of the kid, and put money in an evelope as gift.
