The generic birthday cakes are just too ugly. I want something much prettier.

I am looking for a birthday cake for my wife. The image in this discussion title is not even close but it is better than most I have found.
All they have at Tom Thumb, Sams Club, Kroger or even Harry & David just don't fit the ticket.
Below is a link to the actual type of cake I really want to find for my wife's birthday cake.
Now that's what I'm talking about!

You can call kroger and they should be able to make you a cake with this type of decor. If they can't, they may be able to tell you who can.

@lookatdesktop I am sure they would be able to accommodate you. I used to work or a grocery store. I didn't work or the dairy department but I do know that they had a big book of the things they could do.

@ScribbledAdNauseum , Kroger is a good place to shop. I might pay them a visit in a day or two. Thanks for your kindly and timely response.

Kroger? Okay, I will ask them. Maybe if I pay them some extra they might do me some extra special favor in the cake ornaments. I love roses on a cake, and love pastels. Butter creme icing and sometimes a little coconut on the side.

What do you think of the fondant icing cakes that are trendy these days? You know the one with marshmallow paste as icing.

@lookatdesktop I find the concept of modelling chocolate interesting because it looks shiny.

There are certain textures I do like. We have used a special egg white with meringue powder . Here is a little article I want to share for everyone who is really interested in cake icing and decoration. Fondant vs Gum:

@CaptAlbertWhisker , I like the look, the shape, the taste. All because it looks sometimes almost too good to eat. But I will in fact eat it.

Sometimes the big stores will decorate the way you want. I know our WalMart keeps plain cakes made that you can and you can order ahead also.

Oak Cliff mainly has Hispanic bakeries and only North Dallas has the bakeries. Too far to drive. I am looking online for a place to order one and have it shipped. But I may end up going to Sam's Club and order a half sheet and try to get the decorator to put pastel pink yellow and white roses on it. If not, Oh well, at least it will be fresh and white and butter creme. I saw one at Neiman Marcus that was totally awesome.

@NJChicaa , OMG! really? Thanks for the tip. I will avoid NM then. You may have saved me a lot of time I would have just wasted. Flavor is the second most important feature of any excellent cake. Sorry you had a bad experience with it.

@lookatdesktop My mother's best friend was sent a cake from Neiman Marcus for Christmas. It was covered in red roses. I think I posted about it. She brought it to a New Year's party and we all tried it. . . it was disgusting. Very expensive and beautiful, but not delicious at all.
My parents’ best friends received a beautiful cake from Neiman Marcus last week. It was sent to them by the parents of their son’s partner. The cake was red...

@rakski , Well that is perfect business sense. I would not bake a cake unless I was paid up front for it. These days people often tell you, Oh, that is not exactly what I wanted and you would be then left with no pay for your effort and a perfectly good cake that you would have a problem selling as people can be very picky and choosy and finicky.

@tzwrites , Yes, but basically all I ever wanted was a purely white cake with vanilla butter cream frosting with plenty of pastel roses on top. I have seen a lot of fruit topped cakes and they are okay but not what I am really hunting to get.

Hi Anthony. When is your wife’s birthday? I like simple cake that has ice cream filling inside. But that cake would surprise her. Very elegant.

She asked that I do not reveal her birth date. So for that reason out of respect for her privacy, I can not say.

If I had time I would pay a person who works at a bakery to do me a special cake for my wife. She would be ecstatic if I could find a way to give her a rose covered layer cake.

the cake in the photo isn't too bad.. though they could've made the petal part look much better. However, I'm one who gets cakes for the taste not the looks, lol so can't really diss it.
the one in the link looks nice though,
hope you get one you really like for her.
