A Great White Shark Spotted

A large great white shark was spotted for the first time in decades off the coast of Spanish islands. Isn't that amazing? I do find it fascinating despite the fact that sharks scare me to death. One of the scariest movies I have ever seen was the original "Jaws". I was 11 years old when my family went to the theater to see it when it first came out. It freaked me out.
A great white shark has been spotted in a marine park in Spain’s Balearic Islands, in the first confirmed sighting of the predator in Spanish waters for more than four decades.

What do you think has changed? Why so many years without a sighting?

Great Whites HAVE been sighted. They just weren't photographed so a scientist could verify the sighting, pony.

The white shark is a female shark. It divorced its male partner, and has returned to parental home. It happens all the time in India.

That's amazing. I'm not a fan of sharks either, and never saw Jaws because of it. I'm not surprised you were freaked out by the movie with everything I've heard about it.

@LeaPea2417 , my native village is situated near Indian Ocean Sea shore in India, we have lot of sharks in the sea in that particular area. The baby sharks are consumed by the locals there! Thanks!

Jaws really did turn sharks into a big fear. They scare me, but I understand their importance.

Yes, I know they are scavengers and help keep the oceans clean.

@vandana7 Well, then! Don't you think the sharks should have an equal chance at dissecting you, vanny? After all, turnabout is fair play!

Yes, I remember the jaws hysteria quite well. People were avoiding going in the water after that movie came out. We have had the same shark swim off our coastline in NJ the past few years. A great white called Mary Lee.

Jaws freaked me out too...and my friends and even my parent forced me to watch more shark movies..saying I will get kind of acclimatized, making them a perpetual nightmare for me. I do get nightmares with sharks eating my torso.

We didn't watch Jaws at the big screen but saw it on betamax with my parents and siblings. Dad was into Hollywood movies a lot. But I can barely remember anything because I was really too young then. I didn't even go to school yet.

Hopefully that means they are coming back from the brink of extinction. I'm not sure if they are rare but it's good they are being seen more and more.

Jaws was a fantastic series of movies, and I loved every single one of them. It is always encouraging to know that the Great White is actually fairly benign, and most of the "incidents" occur based on "mistaken identity."

I don't think it's a good sign, something might had destroyed their habitat from where they came from or their natural source of food was the one damaged. Changing water temperatures could be another reason. " Jaws " was really scary especially considering we are an island nation

Woah! That is so neat! I love sharks, I think they are so pretty. They are like the only thing of the ocean that doesn't freak me out, oddly enough haha
