Here comes July. The schools are closed and many are taking their summer vacations.
The name of July was given by Romans in honor of Emperor Julius Caesar.
The birthstone is the ruby, the flower of the month is the water lily.
July has the second Friday 13th of the year.
This is considered an unlucky day in some western countries (not all).
The fear of the number 13 has the scientific name of: triskaidekaphobia.
There are several known reasons for this superstition, among others:
- 13 who attended the "Last Supper"
- Friday 13th, 1307 the day when France arresting hundreds of Knights Templar who were then burned at the stake.
In several Spanish speaking countries and in Greece, the unlucky day is considered Tuesday the 13th. In Italy, it's Friday the 17th, the 13th is considered a very lucky number.
The important dates of July:
Today July 1st, is Canada Day.
the 4th is Independence Day in the United States
the 14th is "Bastille Day" in France.
Do not forget July 7th - World Chocolate Day.
Do you like the summer heat and enjoy going to the beaches, or do you prefer cooler destinations?

I'm not an extreme heat lover, though I do go to a sauna about once a week. However, when I get uncomfortable in the sauna then I can jump in the swimming pool or get relief from a cool shower.
Being at the site in your picture or by the ocean would be great as long as there is a place with air-condition nearby for the evening.
Enjoy the summer!

I learned something new about July. I didn't know the water lily was the month's flower. I didn't know about the superstitions surrounding it.
I will find a way to celebrate World Chocolate Day. It'll be creative, but I will make it happen.
My son was born on Friday the 13th in July. He was the first of many babies born that day. My birthday follows the following week.
Very good and interesting information.

@arthurchappell I am surprised that it is so humid today, because the wind was blowing during the night.

I don't mind hot summer as I am much more afraid of the cold winter since here there is no heating system indoor. The summer vacation for children also starts from July here. And the children will start to go to school since September 1st.

@DeborahDiane No, it was not really a happy day because people are suspicious when new products are introduced for the first time. Nobody wanted to eat chocolate, tomatoes or potatoes, they were scared fearing all those were poisonous food.

You are just starting summer vacations? Ours ended right now. Starting July, it is officially the end of summer season and beginning of monsoon (rainy) season.
July 1 is celebrated as the Doctor's day here and its also the birthdate of yours truly.
And I hate summer heat! So, good riddance to that.

I love the beach, if I can sit in the shade of an umbrella or a tree. Yes, I like cooler weather, rather than this heat.

I do love your monthly posts .. I learn so much from them Even though I know Friday 13th is just a superstition I still take extra care on those days,
I must admit I look forward to the summer but this year is intensely hot in the UK and we are not used to it so we are all wilting and wishing it would cool down just a little.

@jaboUK I agree, travelling takes it out now that we are older, we feel better at home.
About the keyboard, your should try to remove the keys that do not work and see if there is dust piled up that prevents a good functioning. If you use Windows 10 I know that there are problems, I think it comes from the operating system. I refused to upgrade to Windows 10. I am going to ask to my husband and come back to you.

@LadyDuck Travelling takes it out of you when you are older, doesn't it?
You know a lot about computers Anna - have you any suggestions for me as my q,a, and z don't work? They worked intermittently for a while, but now seem to have packed up completely. I'm having to use an on screen keybord for those letters, which is a real nuisance. A friend suggested fn and F6 together and that worked for a while.

If you don't mind me asking, why is Friday the 17th considered an unlucky day in Italy?

Friday is considered an unlucky day in Italy, it is a Catholic country and Friday was the day Jesus was killed. For what concerns he number 17, if you look at it as the Roman numeral it is written XVII, and then changed anagrammatically to VIXI, that translates "I lived", that means "My life is over."

@LadyDuck Surely it was not a good day for him, but he chose to be a sacrifice for all of humanity. It definitely was not a good way for him to die.

@LadyDuck Definitely cruel and unusual punishment by the Romans. But they did that purposely to make a point to the population, to keep them in order and in fear of committing crimes.

I'm a summer girl, but don't like the awful humidity we are having right now. We have exciting plans with friends for our 4th of July, are spending a night at a favorite inn and spa later in the month, and my son closes on his new house on July 31st. Happy July to you!!!
