I think this is the second step. Actually, it must be the second step.
The first and foremost step is to treat yourself with respect and dignity. Personal development on mental, physical, emotional, spiritual and psychological level must be paramount.
If you succeed in achieving that, your attitude towards others, your surroundings, and life in general will improve on its own. Because you will find peace in yourself and accept and love yourself as you.
What you feel and what you are is what you project onto others on a more natural level without having to dictate or school your actions. When one is at peace with oneself, they naturally will project it to others.
In reply to the post by @jstory07. Replying here because I wished for it to be seen by others as well. Not just her! Thanks for the inspiration for a new post by the way. I hardly ever want to write one. Now I have a couple in my head rearing to make appearance.

Hey there DJ! Most people think I'm crazy so I guess that's what I'm projecting. But trust me when I say I love myself a lot.

@toniganzon LOL! Craziness is welcome. I myself am pretty crazy. The world needs some colours and spunk. And little mischief while we are at it.

@LadyDuck We can only take responsibility for our actions fortunately or unfortunately depending on which way you look at it.

That is why I have problems with others around me. I can't fart when I can't help it. Evil Grin.
Ok...serious..I have to conform to a dress code which can be very sweaty for my constitution. I am not good with that. In summers I often wear a long dress without wearing the pant. When others try to step in, I have to maintain a decorum, and that makes me uncomfortable and resent them. Dad is ok with the way I dress, but others are gonna think what...she should be better dressed. Like hell...its my home, who the hell is he or she to tell me that. I am evil...because I want to be me and that me is pretty comfortable. Is that so bad?

@Daljinder Though, I can't help but mention those people who clearly love themselves so much and not treat others well because they feel they are better than everyone else for some reason.
But I am still agreeing that loving ourselves and taking care of ourselves is a must! Just never hurts to be kind to others at the same time too.

@VivaLaDani13 I am talking about love. Not an obsession with oneself. Loving too much and loving less, either way it is not okay. Love fairly! That is a secret to being at peace with yourself and eventually (in larger picture) world peace.
If you love yourself fairly then there won't be a question about your conduct towards yourself and others. It gets sorted out on its own by being able to love yourself fairly.
