I Must be Crazy!

Last Monday I joined a new gym. It is close to my home within a 5 minute drive.
It offers so many things to do, many of which I won’t use. But, if I wanted to use any, I could.
They have a restaurant, pool, 3 racquetball courts, a rock climbing wall, a spa for massages, facials, showers with hair dryers, organic lotions and potions, whirlpools, sauna, and steam baths, two gymnasiums, a huge workout room with TVs, music, reading, and fitness instructors, and rooms for spinning, aerobics, dance, etc.
So far I have used the treadmill and elliptical machines, took an aerobics class and a drum ball class. I am not sore anymore as I was Saturday night, when our friends dined with us at a rooftop restaurant. I could barely climb up or down the stairs!
So after my morning walk, I will hit the gym again. One would think with my 20 years as a walker, I’d be fit as a fiddle. Not so, but it’s good for something.
My hubby joined, also, but will still use his other gym.

@Jessabuma I will have to take it slowly, no matter what I do. I didn't realize how out of shape I am. Ugh!!!! I will try to do work on the machines and then take a class every time I go.

wow, it has everything! it does sound strange, but they do say you're supposed to mix it up because your muscles get used to things.
the blouse you're wearing, i remember that material is called eyelet.

@DianneN eyelet was common when i was growing up, and i'm glad it's making a comeback. it's very feminine.

@hereandthere I have always loved it. I found a cute eyelet short sleeved jacket in one of the closets. It's so old, but still workable.

Yes, we should mix it up to use all our muscles. I need people at the fitness desk to show me how to use the machines. I try something new every time I'm there.
Thank you. I'm wearing a dress and it's all eyelet. It has 5 or 6 black ribbons hanging from under a ruffle on the skirt part beyond the hem for about 12 inches. It's so cute.

Hello there Princess Di! I love that white tops of yours.
I'm not really into gyms. But I'm trying to do yoga every morning except on days when I have my period. I do it at home with a phone app that also tracks my health for the day.

@DianneN A friend of mine told me that walking can't really do much but it's good for the heart. As to toning and actually losing weight, it's not much of a great help.
Good luck on the gym.

@toniganzon Actually, walking is good for many things besides the heart. It protects against diabetes, cancer, strokes, lowers high blood pressure, osteoporosis, arthritis, colon cancer, and other chronic conditions. Plus, it speeds up the metabolism, improves bone density, balance, and is fun to do outdoors with friends. The gym is for toning.

HA HA! Hello there Grand Princess! Thanks so much! It's really a dress. Perhaps I will wear it again and have my husband take a full length photo. It has about 5 or 6 black ribbons streaming from beneath a ruffle and hanging about a foot off the bottom of the dress.
I'm not into gyms either, but really need to get in shape. Walking has done nothing except get my metabolism going. I really enjoy this gym. I'll let you know when and if I quit as I've done many times in the past.

Well done you, I was at the pool for exercise this morning. This heat is killing everyone. Tomorrow it is exercise at the senior center but if this heat keeps up. which of course it is supposed to, we may opt to not go.

I can't begin to tell you of all the gym memberships and lifelong gym memberships I've had over the years. Forget the heat! The gym is killing me, but I'm so out of shape and will keep at it. I'm sure your gym has a/c. How is Al doing in this heat?

@DianneN maybe, or could just be because you aren't use to those exercises. but rest up as much as you can too.

That place sounds insane! Very fancy. My gym is nothing like that. Just 3 rooms with barbell racks, a TRX suspension set up, dumbbells, kettlebells, rowing machines, Assault bikes, Prowlers, sleds, and some other weight lifting stuff. I love it. I just wish it was closer to my house. It is a 25 minute drive each way.

I don't even know what you are talking about. I haven't been introduced to many machines, yet. They look scary to me, but I know eventually I'll use most of them. Do you do classes like spinning, pilates, zumba, etc.??? Yes, 25 minutes each way is a schlep, but I know it doesn't stop you at all!!!! Good for you. You look great, too.

@NJChicaa I know all gyms are different, but yours sounds well organized. Group workouts are more fun, anyway. I did a class today with weights, bands, and a ball, then put time in on the treadmill. I will be sore tomorrow for sure! My body has been dormant for years except for walking and occasionally doing bits of this and that in my basement. I give you credit and kudos.

@DianneN Every session is a group workout, but there are no classes. They have the workout up on the board and we all do that together. There is no deviating from what he has up there and you can only go at one of the scheduled workout times. It looks like a pretty bare-bones type of place but we manage to get a lot done there.
