Do you remember cassette tapes?

When I was about 5 years old my grandmother's boyfriend gave me my first tape recorder. He was very interested in music and he had lots of cassette tapes. He copied some of them and gave them to me. My mother was against the idea and she thought that I was too young to use a tape recorder., but I quickly learned how to use it.
My grandmother's boyfriend also had another idea. He found some of my favourite books and he asked my grandmother to read them aloud. He recorded her on tapes and gave me the tapes. I wasn't able to read at that time, but when I played the cassette tapes I was able to listen to my favourite stories.
When I got older I started buying my own cassette tapes, and I also recorded my favourite songs from the radio. Since Youtube and similar sites didn't exist at that time we had to be patient and wait for the right song
Have you used cassette tapes? Did you record music from the radio?

I also had lots of them. I got rid of most of them, but I still have a few left. I often recorded my favourite music from the radio.

@amadeo The same thing happened here. The physical shops that used to sell cds have all disappeared. I think it is still possible to buy them in some of the online shops from my country, but that will probably change in the future.

I had so many of them in the past, and I loved to record my favourite songs from the radio. Today I search the songs in Youtube, but of course that option didn't exist at that time

@Porcospino , I don't have any problem in keeping those casettes as these casettes as my Sony Deck can play these casettes without any problem even today! Thanks!

I also had a lot of them in the past. Since that time I have gotten rid of many of them, but I have kept a few including some of the cassettes that friends recorded for me in the past.

@AKRao24 It is nice that you still have the chance to play them. I have a radio in the kitchen. It has a cassette player, the rest of the radio is broken, but I keep it because it is the only cassette player I have. I would like to buy a new cassette player. I might find one in a second hand shop.

Some young people don't even know what a cassette tape is. A daughter of a friend saw one in my home and asked me what it was. It is nice that you were able to transfer the content to your computer. I still have a few cassette tapes left, but I don't use them much.

I had so many of them when I was younger. There were no cds in my childhood so I always used cassettes instead. The cds came when I was a teenager.

Yes, it was exciting. I always had some extra cassette tapes in my home so that I didn't miss my favourite song. I still have a few cassette tapes left, but I don't really use them.

@youless Yes, there are better options today. I often recorded music on cassette tapes in the past, but some of the young people don't even know what a cassette tape is

Yes, they have disappeared from the shops now. When I was a child and a teenager it was still possible to buy them in the shops. Now we only find them in the second hand shops.

I hope that you can get it repaired. I still have one tape player left that works. I think it is hard to find a new one today. Ten years ago I managed to find new tape player in a shop, but today they only sell them in the second hand shops.

@allknowing I remember LPs. The first stereo my parents had consisted of radio, cassette player and record player. Cds came later when I was a teenager.

I think we are from the same generation. I also remember the cassette tapes from my childhood. When I was 13 or 14 cds became popular. I still remember the first cd I bought, it was a Gary Moore cd.

You bet I used cassette tapes. I still have a cassette deck, too! And yes, I remember fondly the days of calling radio stations and requesting a song, then waiting for them to play it with the cassette recorder sitting next to the radio!

I remember that. I used to listen to a radio station that played a lot of alternative songs from my country. In many cases I didn't know the bands, but I recorded the songs and I listened to them over and over.

Yes I used them, and yes I recorded songs off the radio. I also did that with my cellphones, instead of buying the songs for $3 LOL. We still have all my moms and our tapes, just cant play them as our tape part of the radio was broken shortly after we got it, thanks to kids sticking stuff in it.

Our radio in the kitchen has the opposite problem. The tape part still works, the rest doesn't work. We still keep it because it is the only cassette player that we have.

@Porcospino i have a boombox in my room, but the tape part doesnt work in that either, and the cd fast forward button broke off and doesnt like to work when i stick my finger in to do it. So might get a new one, but it wont have a tape part. Ugh.
