How To Get Better Service In a Hotel

The hotel wants your stay to be pleasant because they want you to return and give recommendations to others. Here are some things you can do to help make your stay a good one.
Use your Do Not Disturb sign. The housekeepers don't want to walk in on you sleeping, getting dressed, or doing anything private. If they knock and you don't answer, they will walk right in. If you want service take the sign off before noon.
Keep your room neat. Put things away, especially money. Leave the tip where the housekeeper will know it is a tip. The bed is a good place. Don't place luggage by the bed or where the housekeeper has to maneuver around it. If the bed is full of personal items, the housekeeper will not make it, so be sure to clear it off. Don't make your room an obstacle course.
FLUSH THE TOILET!! If it's clogged call the front desk and they will send someone up to deal with it.
Don't demand service. Yes, you have a right to service, but if the housekeeper is on the seventh floor and you demand "right now" service on the first floor the housekeeper has to stop what they are doing and go to clean that room. Wait your turn, they will get to you. On the other hand, if you don't want service let the staff know early in the day. If you wait till later to say anything, your room may have already been cleaned.
Treat the staff with respect. Don't treat them as if they are beneath you. They are there to do their job, part of which is to make you comfortable during your stay. A friendly guest makes for a more enjoyable experience for all.

As much as I stay in hotels, all good points. I very much respect the hotel staff to make my stay as comfortable and as enjoyable as possible. BTW, what hotel do you work at in Kansas City? Just curious because I am there once a month and I stay at the Super 8 by World's of Fun.

Super 8?!!!
Check out Drury Inn. There's one by the airport, Shawnee Mission and Overland Park. I'm at the Overland Park one and it was recently remodeled. Quite a few perks too, especially for Gold Key members.

@porwest So what do you get for your diamond membership besides a stay at a no tell motel?

Wow, I just found you are relatively close to me. I do not ever stay in hotels, though. We just breeze on by KC to go see daughter in Minnesota. I love your post as it is full of practical information.

I see the issues that housekeepers have, experiencing them myself. I live in Olathe, which isn't far from work. Depending on the traffic and we've got never ending road construction.
