myLot: A Refuge for the Lonely Soul

I have been with few sites over the years but most flattered to deceive in the end. On a couple of sites, I put my heart and soul but they bit the dust or are in deep hibernation.
Online sites have been my refuge and now it is myLot. Though it might not have been my cup of tea to start with, I have adapted. I am now retired and I have to thank my stars that I have something to keep me occupied though I may have managed otherwise too if we didn’t have these modern gadgets and technology. However, our reach would have been limited if we had none of these gadgets and applications.
I love online sites for the reasons:
1. One can walk in and leave whenever we want to.
2. Write on any topic as long as it is within the guidelines.
3. Find those we gel with and interact
4. No country borders and other artificial barriers. We are like the birds that fly across continents!
5. We can understand the aspirations, hopes and fears of humanity and what a solace that we are the same with similar feelings, hopes and hurts.
We find solace here and feel fulfilled the time here is rewarding not only monetarily. We are judged in a positive way and that does not happen often in the real world!
How comfortable and welcome you feel here? Of course, it goes without saying, you may not be here if it is not so.

I am not at all a lonely soul. I like myLot because it is a friendly site, you are not obliged to write or to interact, you do what you like. You meet people and you are free to interact with those you like more. I like the freedom of this site.

What I had in mind was when we feel lonely, we find refuge here.
We have a welcoming site with real people to interact with compassion.
At another site, it was free for all with even insults flying around!
I like the fact the administration is hands-on to enforce the rules and respond - siva

I feel very happy bto be on this site, I basically unwind myself and feel relaxed and satisfied after interacting with the members here! I get to laern many new things, I get an opportunity to have some fun and I encounter with some serious but healthy arguments too...so in nutshell, I am here to enjoy myself while making few cents here which keeps me motivated! Thanks!

Thanks, I have the same take.
I like to share my thoughts when I feel the urge and do so wholeheartedly.
We have a microcosm, a miniature, world here to help us understand human hopes, fears and aspirations.
It is also an escape from the real world of created misery - siva

This is like a family. My English is not as good as yours. So for me, myLot is an opportunity to learn. Here you get different groups as well. Different types of interactions. I mean, if I had to spend time with my aunts I would be yawning inside. It is always gold, sarees, so and so's marriage etc. Limited topics. Here, wide range of subjects, and we can choose as per our moods. I also find genuine and envy less wishes here. People care in their own way. It is not the small cent because that they can get on another post. They come to wish you well, they come to advise, they come to tell you do this way. I quite like that.

@Shiva49 They say people spending time online are lonely. But I prefer this. People in real life tend to have double standards. You never know what they are thinking of or talking of behind your back. There is a lot of stress in keeping that kind of friendship.

Well said. and thanks for the additional input.
English is not my mother tongue but I like languages.
Apart from three Indian languages, I am fairly fluent in Indonesian too as I spent five years there.
It is tough to have a good interaction face to face nowadays.
The younger generation has different lifestyle while most older ones seem lost.
I had put much more effort in two other sites but they could not sustain.
I comment whenever I find something interesting and not with a view to increasing my earnings.
I love the deeper interaction - siva .

@Shiva49 I remember the days when in school we were encouraged to write to someone in another country and share experiences. Here we can do it with many people at the same time.

@1hopefulman I recall my earlier days when a simple reply to a letter used to take weeks!
My father went to London for higher studies twice, each time for two years and his family never saw or even spoke to him during that time. Are we not blessed?
I recall President Reagan's words when someone told him: "You didn't grow up in a world of instant electronic communications, of cybernetics, of men computing in seconds what it once took months and even years, of jet travel, nuclear power, and journeys into space to the Moon."
President Reagan replied "You're absolutely right. We didn't have those things when we were. growing up. We invented them." - siva

Thanks. I have found refuge and comfort in online sites.
I recall a colleague writing a page every day before he went to sleep.
He wanted to share his views, sort of a legacy, and that was thirty years ago when there was no internet.
When I was young, few had pen friends/pals and they were so excited to get a response after weeks!
Now interaction is instantaneous! siva

This guy is awesome and writes some neat stuff, spiritual in its own way. I am sure many advantages to writing on Mylot, lonely people can find a place, people like me that can vent their frustrations so they stay sane. For people who just like to joke around and people who like to share their worldly experiences. It could be a little something for everyone if they use it right.

@Shiva49 Amen, might be how you bring back a civil world but that is up to people. Many still get so upset at petty stuff because they see it different and they want people to think just like them. If people were smart they would keep the parts they like and incorporate that into their life and discard the parts they disagree with, but many just focus on the disagreement part and no one ever becomes a better person that way.

@crossbones27 Thanks for your uplifting take, comment and support,
My intentions are clear but then I cannot help people drawing a different conclusion than what I had intended.
My posts highlight the positives in humanity despite few creating havoc. After all, we all feel lonely at times and we yearn for refuge. I am not quite active here and when I want to get away from the reality of the physical world I love to be here. I think that is what others do too - siva

Thanks, we need these outlets to let go of what is bothering us and share them with others.
I like to dwell on those that urge me to air them here and before that in other sites too.
And the interactions make me ponder on the issues that I raise.
Let us all make the best use of this avenue - siva

You are right, it fulfills a lot of needs for many. I love it here as I have made so many new friends from all over the world and learned so many things. It keeps me company when I have nothing to do and no one judges me here (if they do they don't tell me) Glad you are enjoying your time here as well my friend

Thank you.
I did not have time when I was working for over forty years.
Once I was able to stretch my legs a bit I found solace on sites like this.
It is a miniature world here and the sky is the limit when it comes to posting as long as we play by the rules; even to let off some steam! siva

This is a nice place to discuss things and share opinions and knowledge. But I am not sure "lonely soul" is a good label...

Poetry: The emptiness of loneliness is fulfilling to some
I am a lonely soul, so terribly alone, I deponed.
I look at others, myself, God too, and just frown.
Others seem to wear the crown of themselves.
I have never owned such a crown. I have no self.
I find no pleasure in my path, alone, or in company.
I have no interest in proving myself right, or wrong.
I have no secrets to hide from anyone, in any place.
I am tired of trying to find any meaning in my space.
The grittiness stays gritty without loneliness to set it apart, and to settle it down.
All is not as you see it at all, and so too, with loneliness, in your bowl.
Loneliness is a silent killer, if its left on its own entirely, and removes your crown,
but by joining you to God, it brings new life to a lonely soul, now whole.
Loneliness can focus love into a greater sharpness in you.
A meditative session alone is of great benefit to renew your hue.
Inspiration is the other side of desperation's coin, you see.
Loneliness frees the lonely soul to be free in its own tree.

The depth of silence can either be chilling or killing, unless you are willing to experience loneliness

@Shiva49 I always feel lonely though, because I always miss God being personally with me at all times.
I feel it was like this at some time in my past. Like a lost lover, I miss God around me, so much so, that I (or it feels like to me) have no way to find this deep cure for my loneliness here in this life.
Every so often, I have a deeper experience with God though, but I am greedy, and I want to feel this continually, not just in sporadic episodes.
So my problem like most of us here is greed too. If I can overcome this, and not want something in return from God, I might then at last, not feel so alone, in my loneliness either.

@innertalks I have God at the back of my mind especially when I feel elated or depressed.
My take is he is everywhere, in all his creations; in fact, they represent him including the air we breathe.
That way I do not miss him at all.
I want him to say at the end of my day here "you did well, could have done better. I have more challenges in store for you, but I will make sure you will also enjoy the time with the ups and downs".
During my working years, I used to chip in, even unobtrusively, to lend my effort wherever I could positively. I have an attitude I am doing his bidding and hence my effort carries a higher responsibility. That applies to my outlook on personal life, here too - siva

Thanks, Steve, a lovely poem about loneliness.
I can experience loneliness, in fact, I look forward to it, but for a while only!
Now myLotters have no need to fear we as get a welcome refuge here.
The lonely souls are no more but are embraced here with gusto.
Partake then in the myLot party with full gusto!
We are never lonely anyway as our creator draws closer or we feel his presence more when we are alone - siva

This is a nice site.
The only thing I find little sad is that many people I interacted when I started out are no longer here

The main reason why I am here is that I have those who share my interests which in my real world would be like searching for a needle in the haystack

I was in sites that required longer posts and was not comfortable to write only a few sentences in a post.
But then other sites I was comfortable with became inactive and I have now adapted to this site.
I like when the administration is hands-on to put in place those who revel in disharmony.
If I have nothing positive to say, I just move on than ignite controversy - siva

I can say I am fully retired from work but try not to be from life!
I have many interests in the fields of general topics, a variety of sports, happenings around the world.
One fascination I have is people. We are just the same with similar feelings, hopes, insecurities and fears.
There is no enmity among the 99%.
I have family commitments, so I am not able to devote much time here as I would like to - siva

@Hannihar When we work, our time (days and years) is not owned by us.
Work was all-consuming as there were issues waiting to be addressed and some were manmade.
Even annual leave had to be planned and I was on call too and work accumulated.
Is it any wonder we all need time for ourselves? Though I know few who live to work while I worked to live! siva
