Camping: Love it or hate it?

As a city girl, I love the IDEA of tent camping. In theory it should reconnect me to nature, rejuvinate, slow down the pace of city life... This weekend, like many times past, has proven otherwise. I think I just dislike camping!
I love the hiking part, outdoors, but at the end of the night I would rather sleep in an air conditioned hotel with a shower.
Me and my friend went to a park about 1.5 hours away from the city, that had some cool hiking spots along the way and a waterfall. We were exhausted after hiking 7 miles in the sun and humidity and probably could have benefit with a swimming lake but they were not any nearby. At the end of the night; both of us had a difficult time falling asleep.
What about you? Do you love or hate camping?

We don't like to camp, but do love the outdoors.
In fact camping to us is slow room service at the hotel we've checked into.
And there isn't anything wrong with admitting that you need the conveniences of a good mattress, a/c and a regular sized bathroom nearby-not to mention the quiet mornings where you are not woken up by the birds chirping loudly.

If I could have my own bug-free tent, I would love it.
I'm allergic to bug bites. I'm also allergic to sleeping with others.
hahaha

@maezee Yep, (hypersensitive) - usually one bug bite (mosquito/spider/you name it) will get very large, red, and inflamed. Then the entire area wll begin to swell, and from there I break out in hives. Throat gets scratchy and sometimes floor of mouth starts hurting and swelling. Good times.

I do not have much experience of camping as I do not go for it very often. I did it a couple of times in school and it was fun then some 25 years back. The last one I did was in 2009 in Grand Canyon and that one was memorable one!!

@maezee I lived in phoenix for long three years and visited Grand canyon several times during day and to see the beautiful sunset. That time we visited in the night. We did not visit places. We spent most time inside camp playing cards, games and singing. In the morning, we went for some hiking. Looking at the moonlit night through our tents was too good!! We liked the beautiful sunrise.

I used to love helping out my friends setting up tents and just chill while they went fishing, barbecuing or listening to some music. However, those were my teenage days and I have a more considerable and slower pace nowadays. Camping is sure fun, but it's not for me anymore. My idea of fun has changed eversince.

@maezee I am well. Spent a week camping, kayaking and hiking. Sitting by the fire at night with friends.
Noone to hike with me, so I didn't go on the great trails, I stuck to the road. Saw a small bear who saw me first. He was scooting into the bush when I saw him. Every time I have seen a bear, they have just gone away.
School is out, but I seem to be having a busy month anyway.
Some wonderful hikes in Montanna, I remember from years ago. And I did sleep in a tent in those
days.

was it possible that you were not able to sleep soundly because of excitement, or there were many noises around, like howling of foxes?

I've been once or twice, and hated it. Definitely not for me.
Sorry you couldn't swim or sleep.
