I finished this book yesterday and I gave it a 5 star rating on Goodreads.com. I loved this book. I recommend it to anyone who likes psychological suspense/thrillers. Before I Go To Sleep is a book that will keep you turning the pages trying to figure out what is going to happen next.
This book is about a woman who has amnesia resulting from a traumatic experience. She cannot convert new memories from her short term memory to long term memory. Each day she wakes up and doesn't know where she is or how she got there. Sometimes, she wakes up thinking she is in her twenties while other times she thinks she is still a child.
Shortly after waking each day, she learns that she is married and her husband has pasted photographs of him and her together over the years. He has created a scrapbook for her to look at which helps to give her some semblance of who she is.
After her husband goes to work, she receives a call from a doctor who claims they have been working together trying to improve her memory. She keeps this secret from her husband. This doctor has her start writing everything down in a journal that she will hide somewhere and the doctor will tell her to find it the next day when he calls again.
Soon she begins to make progress and she is finding out more about her life. Memories are coming back to her and she writes them down in her journal. She finds that she had a child, but she also learns that he died in Afghanistan. An old friend comes back into her life and things start to change. She is learning more of the truth about her past and she is finding that her husband is lying to her.
Are her memories real or is what her husband tells her real? Is the doctor involved with feeding her these lies along with her husband? Is she going crazy? Is it just paranoia?
This book was made into a movie in 2014 starring Nicole Kidman. I am curious to see it now and see if it is as good as the book.

I have seen the movie and it is brilliant. I love Nicole Kidman as an actress. They have to leave a lot out in the movies but I think you will enjoy it all the same.

I will have to check out the movie then. I usually don't find them as good as the books because of all the stuff they leave out or change.

@morgoodie Yes I remember reading Amityville Horror and although I enjoyed the film the book was much better.

@sprite1950 I want to say that I have read that book and it was good. I was really young when I seen the movie and was scared of it.

I was going to say this reminds me of 50 first dates. I think that's the name of the movie. I don't think it's the same movie as what this book is about.
I will have to look into this as it seems like something I would like to read. I posted about all of the books I scored today.

@morgoodie I will see if I can't find it somewhere. I'll have to write the title down and note it the next time I go to Mckay's. Maybe they will have it. What year was it published, do you know?

Yeah the premise is much like 50 First Dates, but without the humor of it. It is more drama and psychological suspense. It was so hard to put down and I wanted to do nothing but read it. I will have to check out your post to see what good finds you got.

I have read it and I liked it. It is an interesting story and it is well-written. I have read another book by the same author, but I liked this book the most. I would like to watch the movie.

@morgoodie I know that he has written a book called "Second life". I have read that one. I found the ending a little confusing, but I won't say more about it, if you haven't read it yet. I don't know if he has written other books.

@Porcospino Yes I think he has a couple of other books. I will see if the library has them and see what they are like.

I am glad you liked it. I was a little disappointed in the end though since it kind of leaves you hanging. Maybe they could make a sequel to it. I want to see the movie too. I don't remember it being out but then it has been a while. I will check out more of this author's books.

@JohnRoberts That's a shame since the book was really good. But that is how it goes sometimes.

It is very interesting. Something different from the usual stuff I have been reading.
