Back when I played The Sims 2, I bought the expansion packs. Today I play The Sims 4 and they contain links from EA GAMES and ORIGIN for DLC, Downloadable Content. You pay for each added content and download it to your game on your gaming PC. The initial game costs about 39.00 more or less. But to make it more fun, you must pay extra for added content that you must download after paying for it using one or another kind of digital currency. Yep. Video Games don't require cash anymore. IAP - In App Purchases: Most Apps that you buy and then download to your Android or other device or PC tell you first hand, if they provide extra In-App-Purchases. Do you like this or do you wish things were more like they were when all or most applications for a computer were on a CD or DVD disc? Ah, yes, the days of the Compact Disc. You could buy a video game and provide the security or authentication key or code and install it in your PC. You could play that game til your heart's content and if the computer crashed, you could always re-install it later, without having to go ONLINE. I once had to wait half a day or more to play The Sims 4 because for half the day, the ORIGIN server was down, not just in America but all over the planet, well, just about all over the planet. When I had to postpone my game I fond other things to do, but the idea that I could not load the game, even off-line bothered me.

The era of internet has really brought its own good and bad side, I prefer the CD era of gaming to the internet. My reason might include internet access being costly in Africa.

Do you have access to Origin on your computer? Electronic Arts and Origin have taken gaming to a much higher level than ever. Internet Access is costly here as well. Good thing that CD games are still in demand.

When it comes to microtransactions my feelings tend to feel mixed. When a game is being offered to you for free, I have no problem putting forward a little money every once in a while to support a game that I enjoy and play often. Those little contributions get put towards keeping the game alive after all. And might even mean further growth and development. Of course there are right ways and wrong ways to go about it. If I am purchasing a game right off the bat before playing it (demos and the occasional early access aside), I usually expect to get the full game and experience. If there are in app purchases attached or DLC involved, I am much more comfortable with it being just some extra odds and ends like for example more inventory space or a costume change that doesn't change the game at its core in any way. I do not want to be buying a game that is giving me only the bare minimum and expecting me to buy even more just to make it fun or interesting. And when I look at the Sims these days, I kind of wonder if it feels complete without the extra content, or if the extra content just fills in missing parts to make the game feel whole. Of course, I haven't played it. So I will have to ask what you think on that one. There are times when I do miss games being on disks or cartridges. Physical copies of a game are nice. And way back when, when games were release that was usually it. For non computer games especially there wasn't any patches, and the bugs were usually minimal because they had to be thoroughly tested. On the other hand, the cost to make those physical copies made them more expensive.

I just now read your comment. In answering as to my opinion of The Sims 4, as compared to earlier versions. I liked The Sims 2 and 3 better for many reasons but yet, I gave them all away and began my virtual game time with The Sims 4, and frankly it's funny that a sim will have to be teleported, that is, disappear then reappear in another location but I reason this is due to the higher definition quality of images on the map. The way that EA games builds on the game over time makes me wonder why they didn't just put it all together in a full game but the cost would be higher than standard games. It could end up costing me either way. AS I build on the game with expansions, I begin to realize that there has to be a lot of programming that goes into 3D virtual reality games like The Sims.

Last time I played it was only on discs. I think that DLCs are a good thing especially if you really like the game and you want to continue playing. I mean, it's a good thing to continue to enjoy what you do. However, it's just the price that bothers me. Some DLC are very good and really worth the price and others are well...not so good. I do sympathise with people who were led to believe in buying not good DLCs. Another btoer for me is always online. More costs for my power and internet connection.
