The Metamorphosis is by Franz Kafka and personally I think it's a great read. For those who haven't read it, a young man named Gregor Samsa turns in to an insect and that's when chaos unfolds. Gregor used to take care of his family before this transformation- because he's an insect now, he can now see the true colors of his family.
So, is his transformation to be mourned or celebrated? Who is actually going through metamorphosis? His family? Gregor? or both?
Personally, I think Gregor's transformation should be mourned and celebrated. Mourned because he's family stopped caring for him- Mr.Samsa was lazy and injured him by throwing an apple at him. The whole family took Gregor for granted- when he turned into an insect, he was no longer useful in their eyes and at the same time that should be celebrated. He's free from the burden of taking care a family that heavily relied on him. Considering this book was published in the modernist era- nothing is to be celebrated.
