Hi there!
Okay I've been going through my MyLots friends old discusions - and I HATE seeing long lost unanswered discussions - so here goes...!
Do you like Terry Pratchett? What you said about your fear of clown reminded me of something in 'The Art of Discworld' (Terry Pratchett and Paul Kidby, 2004, Gollancz)
In it he has a section dealing with the Discworld's 'Fool's Guild' (The clown's academy, so to speak)
He writes:
" The Fools' Guild is based simply on two truisms: Humour as a profession is hard, and clowns worry people. There's a sense that they're getting messages from somewhere Out There. Perhaps it's the fixed grin, like the one on a skull. Somehow the laugh is on us, and the clown knows it. They're in touch with something ancient and uncontrolled."
wow.....

You said it all with that last word
"wow..."
No i have never heard of Terry Prachett although I am going to look him/her up. And I would have to say that anyone out there that is a clown, stay away it is an irrational fear of mine and I don't know what would happen if I were confronted by a clown. I really hope my son doesn't ever want a clown at one of his birthday parties.

lol yes a clown party doesn't sound like a good idea for you!
Yes I do really recommend Terry Pratchett. He's a fantasy writer, but is read even by people who don't normally enjoy fantasy. He's best known for his series of books about a world called the 'Discworld'. You can now even by all sorts of Discword stuff, like wall maps and figurines. (If you look under 'Discworld' on ebay you'll see the figurines.) Anyway, his writing it really, really good in my opinion. Its good fantasy - good escapism - but at the same time its incredibly clever - and he manages to get into the writing a lot of his own 'theories' and observations about life / society / reality etc. Being pagan you might enjoy his maiden / mother / crone witch trilogy in the stories as well! :)
