Bella Has A New Job

The other night, Bella was outside doing her business and just meandering around the yard. She had been out for quite a while and I told my daughter to check on her. Bella was in the flower bed which isn't used right now and she was digging as she is prone to do once in a while. My daughter couldn't get her to come in, so she went out there. I went to the door to see what was going on and my daughter told me that Bella had found something, but wasn't sure what it was. Bella was focused on something just under the bricks edging the flower bed. The thing was making a noise and I couldn't really tell what it was. Well then my daughter screamed and jumped back. Bella had the thing in her mouth and threw it into the air playing with it and it fell just out of her reach. But then, she had it back in her mouth and threw it in the air again. Only this time it landed not far from where my daughter was standing in the lawn. My daughter screamed again and ran back to the porch. I laughed. Bella has now become a mouser. The mouse just laid there in the grass quietly. I knew it was dead, but my daughter was going to poke it with a stick to see. She was too scared to do it though. I told her to go get a shovel from the garage and scoop it up to put it in the trashcan. At least, the mice aren't in the house and I know my Bella will take care of them if they ever do get into the house. Good job, Bella!!! Picture by me.

I didn't think dogs caught mice. I always thought it was cats! Well done Bella .. did she eat it?

@morgoodie Oh dear. I think that would have upset me although it's natural for cats and dogs to chase mice and sometimes eat them.

@sprite1950 Yeah it's natural. It doesn't really bother me as mice are destructive so the last thing I need is for them to be in my house chewing it to bits. It already has enough things that need to be fixed.

@sprite1950 Well that could be too. It was screeching pretty bad when she was trying to catch it. Poor thing, she's a giant compared to it. I am glad she doesn't bring them in the house. It was all soaked with saliva when I seen it laying in the grass motionless.

@morgoodie Wow, you learned something new that Bella kills mice like a cat does. You do not need a cat around because you have Bella.

Right!! I don't need a cat. I just need my fur baby, Bella. She can take care of those pesky critters.

I hate mice. I can just picture Bella playing "fetch the mouse" though.

@morgoodie I hope the cats moved on and found another person to feed them. Of course, if the man didn't move too far away then it's very likely the cats found him again. They are smart like that. The neighbors have three cats that are outdoor kitties. I don't know how well they do at tackling the mice population but we haven't had many problems with them this year atleast. One of the cats is what I call "our yard kitty", because she has chosen our yard to lay in. I can't say as I blame her as we have the most shade.

@ScribbledAdNauseum We usually have mice in the garage since the door is broken and there are several places that they could get in there. The mouse was definitely scared as it was chattering at a very high pitch. I at first thought it was some sort of insect. My daughter's reaction was pretty funny though.

Bella's prey drive kicked into high gear. Watch out, rodents!

It sure did. She keeps checking back there too when she is outside. Trying to find some more friends to play with. Good riddance to rodents!!

I wish my cat would be so inclined. He's cute and we love him. But he's pretty much useless.

LOL. I think the reason that the cats in the neighborhood would kill them was because they were probably hungry. Or maybe he knows you want him to catch mice and he decided he didn't want to do what you want him to.
