One shouldn't lose their self esteem in love - What do you think about it?

In today's times, I see many people around me both male as well as female who when in love they do everything to get another person's acceptance. When there are fights or someone isn't ready to carry on with the relationship, other person tries very hard to get that person and in doing so sometimes does embarassing things or they lower their self esteem even if that other person becomes rude or abusive. I really wonder how can one lose oneself so much in order to get love of that other person. Their should be love but also respect for each other in every relationship. Both are the foundation of any relationship.
