Not only did her unedited book turn into a play, it also turned into a musical and two movies!

Daisy Ashford was nine years old when she took pen to paper and wrote a novel. She would later find it amongst her things and decide to get it published. The publisher would send it to the publishing house without editing the book (very much), thus saving the integrity of it's production. The book surrounds the aristocracy in England and of several different potential marriages. I came across this book in a backwards way as I was researching another. However, I am glad I did come across this book and potentially intend to buy it and read it for myself. The writing errors might be a bit too much for me, however, and so I haven't completely made up by mind about it. I wanted to write about this here as I thought that it was pretty special for a 9 year old's work of fiction to be published.
A short “society novel” written by Miss Daisy Ashford at the age of nine. The notebook containing the novel was rediscovered by her in ad...

That is quite a feat for a nine year old. I followed the link and I seen that the book was free with Kindle so I downloaded it. It might be a while before I get to it, but I will let you know how I liked it.

@morgoodie Ah yeah, I had forgotten that you can download the classics for free. It does sound like an interesting read but it may be difficult. Not only is it written in a different era but by a child, and there has been very little editing done to it.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Yeah you can download a lot of the classics for free. I just happened to notice that under the description that it was free on the Kindle. I don't know if it is always free or if it is for some other reason. It sounds like an interesting read and one that will be different from what I have been reading lately.

Daisy Ashford was only 4 years-old when she wrote her first story, that was only published in 1983. More or less the same fate of her most popular book, that is the one you are describing here.

I hadn't come across that when I was doing my research. Same Daisy Ashford? Wow.

If it's been turned into a musical as well as movies, it must be good, even with the errors. I doubt I'd be able to read it, as the typos alone would drive me over the brink. I hope you enjoy it, should you decide to buy it.

I am not sure that I could survive the typos myself. I might consider it if I can get it for under $5.00 though.

A great story and one that serves as a reminder to anyone aspiring to write that you never throw any work away, never write yourself off, and always believe that something may be better than either you or the rest of the world may immediately know.

I couldn't have said it better myself. I believe the author also had another piece of work published as well. I am sure her family was very proud of her, and now her descendants can boast that their family member "wrote a best seller at age 9!"

@ScribbledAdNauseum A feat indeed. It's hard to write a best seller at any age, let alone 9.

That's really amazing how young she was to get it published, even with all the errors. Have not read her work, but now maybe I will.

Shark Boy and Lava Girl was written by like a six year old. It wasn't a super fantastic movie, but for kids it was great and the fact that a little kid wrote it was awesome.
