Planning for a homebirth!

9 weeks until we give birth to our first child! Very excited and we really can't wait! We have opted for a homebirth as we don't want to have to leave our home on our small island for about a month and go into a city! Homebirths a generally just as safe (here in the UK atleast) as hospital births, and there is a lot of evidence supporting the fact that they are actually safer! What are your views on home births?

2 of them - well, thats the plan anyway. If the weather is stormy or foggy they will move over onto the island for a few days before the due date.

As long as the baby is not breech and there are no complications and a professional is there to help you, I don't see anything wrong with that. I prefer giving brith in the hospital though because after giving birth, it's mandatory in this country that a new born screening test should be administered on the baby.

You just came up in a thread on another post as people were remembering you and wondering how you were! Hope all is well. Too late now... but both my girls were born at home quite successfully and as pleasant an experience as it could be. Hope it was for you as well.

Well.. My sister in law gave birth at home. but it was unplanned. they called an ambulance and until he arrived the baby was out. They still went to the hospital to make all the checks. Thankfully everything was ok. But it's not always like that. Just 4 weeks ago my sister and my sister in law gave birth and i can tell you that if they would have done it at home i don't think the babies would be here today. One baby the doctors literally had to take him right away and didn't even gave him to my sister in law. The other had a fever a few days after and had to be hospitalized I know i wouldn't ever take the chance and bet on my baby life. I would go to a hospital. But. I don't know how is it in the UK. if you're saying it's safe..? I gotta take it. But i still don't think it's as safe. Whatever you choose... I wish you a smooth and fast with no complications at birth. Wish you and the baby to feel good and be healthy.
