I was craving for good food. Home cooked, that is. I have been having instant ramen for a few days now and I am getting sick of it. Last night, I had one and added eggs. It was ok since I grew up eating instant ramen with or without eggs. I was craving for dried fish and bagoong (fermented shrimp).
This afternoon, I walked to the store with $10 in my pocket. Bought some big potatoes ( two for $1.50), corn on the cob ( 4pcs for $2) and pork (2lbs. for $5.46) .
I went home, prepared everything. Steamed rice. Made pork and vegetables stew. Eric and I had a good dinner. I still have $1.04 in my pocket. Saving it for something later.
Thanks to my mother who taught me how to be self-sufficient and resilient I owed everything to her.
What are you having for dinner?

I admire your resiliency and perhaps your resourcefulness as well You were taught well by your mother, that's why we Filipinos survive, thrive and even prosper wherever we are, " mabuhay" ( long live). I'm still thinking of what to eat for breakfast.

I cook from scratch most of the time. I donĀ“t have the money to buy food that is made, even junk food.

That's a very good example of setting a realistic budget. Not only did you stretch your $10.00 but you put it to great use.
Your dinner sounded excellent.

I am like you on shopping, I can make money stretch and not do without good home cooked food.

I cooked/prepared too much food the last few days, now I have to eat leftovers. Perhaps I should have some tortilla for my lunch and dinner???

It's really expensive over there. Makes me lucky over here that the stores are near and less expensive.
