Good Day Turned to Crap

Today started out mostly good. New babies, then off to the auction where I got a few goodies. While there and talking to a friend I managed to get a free dog house for my sons dogs. So the day was going great.
When we got home it went to crap. I let the 4 girl dogs out front and got a leash to take Duke out back. While he was sniffing around I looked out at the horses and seen our old girl laying down. Where she was it is muddy so I knew it was time to say goodbye. She would not have deliberately laid down in that. I went out to make sure then called the vet. Next was to call our daughter as Finale was her old 4-H horse. She came to say goodbye.
I felt bad as the vet knelt down beside her. It was a man and I did not think at first about her distrust of men because of being abused and starved before we got her. But as soon as I seen her eyes get real big I remembered. As I sat down and told her I was sorry about forgetting she calmed down and relaxed.
She is now young and playing again. Finale was around 30 and lived with us for around the last 20 of those years. R.I.P old girl. Tell Peta and Dar Dar we said hi.
Picture is Finale about a year after we got her

That's the worst thing about animals They go fast and that is unbearable. Glad she went away peacefully.

With her age I knew it could be anytime, but she was feeling so good the couple before that. But that is also a normal pattern many times. It is like they and even us humans get a few great days right before time to say goodbye.

@brokekid0212 Yes, the pasture will seem empty for some time with just 4 there now. But she is in a better place. Her age was equal to being around 100 at least for us.

I'm sorry you had to have Finale put down. She had reached a very good age for a horse.

She had. Losing a young one is what really tears me up.

I truly am sorry for your loss. Run free, sweet girl. You still ride horses?

I havent ridden in a few years. We now have 2 broke and 2 unbroke ones here. Out of the 5 with her she is the one I would have trusted the most to get started back again.

The horse was 30? Isn't that a pretty good long life for a horse?

Yes it is. Late teens and early 20s are still more common. But we had one live to be 35 hers is the spotted rump in the picture

Once she learned to trust us she was a very trusted ride with an ornery streak, But always ready for hugs.
