Harbinger of Autumn?

We had a hailstorm last night that was the most destructive I've seen for years right here. They have had them all around us, but yesterday was our turn. I wish I would have taken pictures! Anyway, it turned very cool last night and hasn't warmed up a lot today. It's 74 F at noon here and it's supposed to be 49 F tonight. It's as if autumn came overnight. A little breeze is blowing the windchimes and the cicadas are sounding off like they know their time is short. Suddenly, I have noticed the tall grasses are gone to seed and I hear crows and I am thinking of pumpkins and cool, crisp mornings and it seems as if this is a warning that it's coming. Cold weather is just around the corner! The reality is that it's going to get hot again, but maybe not as hot as it was before this system cooled things down. AND it won't be long until autumn really is here - at least September isn't far away, and that's when the nights start to cool down.

I always hope for an early fall and a long "indian summer" after a frost so I always want to say it won't be long! That's as good a guess as I can give.

Did the storm do any damage to your place? Here it is still quite warm for this time of the year. September is even closer now!

Nothing serious, a few limbs down and the garden took a pounding, but that's all. It warmed back up, but we're expecting cooler weather this weekend again. September is even closer, yes! And I am ready for it.

It looks like it might cool down a little earlier this year, but who knows? It's supposed to be cool tomorrow with a high of around 70! And the low in the 40s. That's early for those temperatures.

@peavey Yes, it is. We haven't seen those temps yet. We're still in the 80's with lows in the high 50's.

We're looking forward to more warmth as we move into spring. We're off to look at wildflowers next week which is a sure sign that it's warming up.

Yes all this and it is not even September yet ..so strange peavey. It is the same around here in Denver.. But wow we did not even get rain last night but the wind kicked up. But you had huge hail did you? The biggest yet. It is cool here today too around 75 and yes more like a coming fall day..so weird already but I like it.

Yes, we had some huge hailstones, but not right where I live, thank heavens. The roofing sales guys are out in full force today anyway! I like it, too, and I can hardly wait until real autumn now. My garden was devastated, but I'm not sure I even care!

I only saw hailstorms in movies. Hails could devastate farm lands, destroy cars and houses, as well as kill people. I hope you and your folks are well.
