I have a freezer and I always have some frozen food there. In summer, I plant basil and make pesto to last all year. Spaghetti with pesto is delicious and filling. I also save broths and that helps if I want to make a risotto with bits of this and that.

@sharon6345 I make pesto blending basil, garlic and olive oil. No salt, no nuts. Then I freeze it in small containers or very small plastic bags. When I want to make pasta with pesto, I place a small amount with the plastic in warm water while I cook the pasta. When it is cooked, I mix everything and add enough Parmesan cheese to my taste. If you need more salt, try it only after you add the cheese.

Our food cabinet always has some canned goods like vienna sausages, corned beef, pork and beans, sardines etc..I also store pasta and instant noodles, it's our reserve if there is a typhoon or other calamities that would prevent us from going outside, I also keep track so those expiring first would be consumed first.

@MsBooklover We got scared with Irma so we bought the dried foods. They are good for another 20 years. They are lightweight so can take them anywhere, just need a means to heat water.
