Another Unofficial Work Day Done

Hallway bulletin board

As you can see from the photo, the materials for my bulletin board arrived today. This is the big board in the hallway I am supposed to change every month, It is not done yet. I have small owls I will be printing each students name on and adding them to the board. I still have some work to do on the library in my room. With the new-to-me books I received over the summer I'm beginning to worry if I have enough shelf space. It's a good problem to have. I hope everyone has a great tomorrow.

How many children will be in your class? That seems like a board big enough to fit quite a few.

There will be 28 little owls on the board when I'm done.

@DWDavis I guess the owls are all the size of the ones on the side there?

@ScribbledAdNauseum The owls for the students are a bit smaller and have white bellies so their names will be easier to read.

I hope so. I'm finally thinking about such things from the perspective of a nine-year-old. It took a while after 15 years of teaching middle school.

I have 28 students registered at the moment and shouldn't gain any more unless the Air Force transfers someone in at the last minute. We will add children from military families who get moved in to late for regular registration.

@LadyDuck 28 is a good number for me. When I taught middle school the largest class I had was 37. I'd much rather teach 28 nine-year-olds than 37 twelve-year-olds.

I have 28 students currently registered and no more will be added unless their mom or dad is transfered to the local base by the Air Force. We make exceptions for those families.

@porwest The school buses being parked instead of holding up traffic is one of the nice things about summer. Between the buses, all the teachers on their way to work, and all the parents who drive their kids to work, traffic around schools is about to get serious.

Looks great! And the shelf space is also a nice problem to have. Here in the Philippines, I think we have a lot of book space but no books.

I haven't thought about the picture idea. Some teachers do that and it's something I'm considering.

How are class sizes there? I have seen a lot of teachers over the last week, coming in and getting stuff for their classrooms. It seems like the average class size here is eighteen to twenty two.

In the lower grades we try to limit it to 28 per class, but make exceptions for military families who transfer in at the last minute or during the school year.

@thislittlepennyearns I need to go by the local dollar store near the house here and see what hidden treasures I can find. I have a teacher friend who loves her dollar store.

@DWDavis I don't know what the limits are here. But it's probably about the same. I see mostly the younger grades teachers. Since we have a lot of hands on learning stuff at work and that works well with little kids.
