As many of you know, my vintage loudspeaker collection has become ridiculously large over the years.
Today, I bit my lip and sold my only pair of (1974) New Large Advent loudspeakers for $270. The buyer was a younger fella, probably in his late 20s.
He said that a lot of people of his generation are rediscovering the "old" audio gear, and also getting back into records. I told him I was glad to hear that.
Interestingly, he offered me $300 for the speakers, and I told him that $270 was a good deal for both of us. It is.

I think that it's a fair and reasonable price for a vintage Advent speaker considering that you had already fully restored the piece, it's very beautiful.

@louievill I also sent a pair of Acoustic Research AR-2axs home with their owner recently. He just brought them to me for a cosmetic restoration.

You are a very nice Horse!! Those speakers are beautiful. I do still have some of my old audio equipment from the 70s when I worked at a stereo store. Maybe they are my gold mind?

@TheHorse I will have to ask hubs what is up there I seem to remember an Onkyo receiver he just mentioned seeing it the other day. Everything would be in pristine condition. He got me a turntable one year for Christmas but I am not sure I ever used it.

@TheHorse The older speakers are built to last a long time, they're firmly constructed. The newer ones aren't built to last!

Were you holding a Dutch auction?

@TheHorse Reverse bids. A price is placed on an object and if no one is willing to pay it, the price is lowered until someone is interested.

There is value in older things because of the quality. So did you make 50 cents on myLOt?

In the mid-1970s, real walnut wood, even veneer (very thin), became too expensive to use on loudspeakers. Cheap plastic or vinyl (or, at best, oak) enclosures became popular. But these old walnut loudspeakers are still out there (often in peoples' garages or attics) and still sound great.

I wish you would ask me before letting go of my $15. Next time do consult me, otherwise, it will be a serious issue. And keep my $135 in your safe custody till I come to collect them. You may give interest at the rate of 10 percent per annum, compounded annually. Because you are my good friend, I have offered you that much concession. Out here, the standard rate if 24 percent per annum, payable monthly and compounded monthly. Just so that you know how deeply indebted you are to me. Evil Grin.

@TheHorse My maid sticks to me because she has no other source that gives her large sums of money free of interest. In lower classes it goes as high as 36 percent per annum. The other day, a driver of a family friend came to return part of the amount he had borrowed (15000 INR ..about 220 dollars). He was trying to return 5000 and dad refused to take. He was so overwhelmed, tears welled up in his eyes. He is a Muslim guy. He may never have expected such kindness from us Hindus. But we do realize that going is tough for really lower class. There is no government concession ..and laws are not strictly enforced about their pay scales. I am paying 4200 to my maid, one of my neighbor pays 2000. I give her food, they don't. It is such personal decision. She is old, and does extremely shoddy job, because of age. But if I throw her out, she is not gonna get employment for sure. I will try to ensure she has some gold so that her folks look after her when she is still older. Hoping she will be walky talky for six years.

I can't afford $270, or $300, but I'll contribute the 50c!

I did. I think long-term, rather than short-term. If he knows he got a good deal from me, he's more likely to come back if he wants other stuff. Plus it was simply the right thing to do. $270 for a pair of minty New Large Advents is a fair price. $300 is a tad too high.
