The Girl Appreciated My Gift

My seven years old neighbor appreciated the gift I handed her for her birthday yesterday.
As we entered their home, I gave it to her and saw her smiled and happy about it although she had not opened it. It contained a box of colored pencils and stickers of flowers, animals, etc. that I thought a little girl can appreciate.
I had a hard time thinking what to give a "well-endowed" girl on her birthday. So the gift, although his parents can easily buy it. I gave it just to show that we are good neighbors and we appreciate their invitation to the party.

It's the best i can think of instead of giving money which I think they no longer need because his father is a well-paid engineer in Japan.

@sol_cee yes, they already gave us goodies from Japan like rice crispies with choco almond on it. Also almond coated with chocolate.

@acelawrites It still is a thoughtful gift, no matter your budget.

It's nice that you thought of something educational to give, yes Filipino good neighbors invite each other on special occasions or send special food if they could not come

It is true; and we are ashamed not to attend or refuse their invitation because our houses are so near to each other.

I was glad too, in spite of the fact that her parents can buy such things for her.

Thank you! We just wanted to go and celebrate with them, but we were too shy to show up without any gift.

I felt that way too, because anyone can always be delighted receiving any kind of gift.

It was special because it did not come from her parents. Kids love to be recognized as individuals. I think it was a great gift.

If the kid turns out to be a great artist one day then pages of history you will be remembered as the one who led the kid in the path :p
And if the kid starts scribbling on walls and messing around then sure the parents will have hard time.
Just kidding, your idea of gift sounds thoughtful.

So very nice analysis! I agree, the girl could be a budding artist. and then she will turn their walls as her canvas.
