What is language?

@slim116 ~We have so much to learn how each species of animals communicates. Like the songs sung by whales, for example. I can't understand what my dog says to other dogs by barking but her body language is clear. Her tail wags so much when seeing people or other dogs. She is a friend to dogs and humans alike. My dog has been with me since she was 2 months old (for almost a year). Since I am on disability and always home, we are almost always together. When I am out of her view, she starts whining. It's sooo sweet. She understands alot of English words like right, left, front door, up and down. We have just started learning Finnish together, too.

@flpoolbum iNdeed,animals maybe have their own languages.But the language of animals is more of body language than sound language or even writing language. Animals communicate through physical movements combined with barking. And humans can convey their meaning by speaking and writing. This is the most important thing. Ps: Dogs can really understand some human languages. The dog's IQ is equivalent to a human 3-4 year old child. It's amazing, isn't it?

@slim116 ~I've hear that whales will hear a song sung by one whale and then pass it along. Obviously, animals don't write but disagree about dogs mainly communicating using body language. Many times, when I take my dog out to play, I'll hear dogs barking up and down the street. My dog will stop to listen. I find it very interesting, wondering what they are talking about.
