Muslim Festival of Sacrifice

Today is the first day of Muslim Festival of Sacrifice. All muslims who are wealthy enough sacrifice an animal, such as a cow, a sheep or a camel, and feed the poor with it.
Have you ever heard of it?
Some people find it cruel to kill an animal for the god. But on the other hand you feed the poor people with its meat. What do you think of it? Is it good or bad?
