Why people in US celebrate Father's day, mother's day, etc? Is it necessary?

I think all these celebrations are made for selling their products. If we respect and care our parents, that's enough.

As a hardworking mother to my children, I feel loved and thanked for the Mother's Day gestures my children give me. Mostly, they give me money so my husband (their Dad) and I could go out on a really nice date in a fancy restaurant and to movies.

Those days are celebrated in almost every country in the world, not only in the United States.

It is a good calendar reminder, but I tend to agree that one special day is not enough and that we should always remember our parents. I do not like the commercialism but want the caring to come straight from the heart.

The Philippines celebrate it too, I agree with you that we should respect them everyday but for me it's better if there is a special day to give emphasis to our being grateful, not everything is commercial although people are free to add commercialization if that's what they like.

We also celebrate Mother's day and Father's day. I think it's a good chance for us to show our parents live.

It is a special day for them to be appreciated, to have dinner made for them, to get flowers, etc. it doesn’t have to be super-commercialized.
