The next president should have to have at least a 10th grade reading level

If Stupid is a prerequisite to be the next president, then there are an abundant number of potential candidates, but if Smart is made mandatory then there will be far fewer candidates able and willing to run for office as the next president of these United States of America.
Give me a break. They don't let you play football if you don't keep a high grade point average, so why should running the country be any different?
And to change the subject why not taking a basic course in being human?

Do existing politicians have the smarts we need to run the country? Would an IQ test raise the bar and attract better candidates to hold office?

A President should also reveal his university grades instead of hiding them for eight years. The public has a right to know what their GPA is and just how well they performed in class.

@DWDavis I was referring to the previous president who refused to reveal his grades. He's supposed to be the smartest man to ever occupy the White House yet held back his Harvard grades. What was the issue? You would think getting great grades would be something to publicize to shut up critics.

@JohnRoberts I always wondered why he didn't share his grades, too. Perhaps he was in a lose-lose situation. If he had Bs and Cs this detractors would have claimed he wasn't as smart as he said he was. If he had all As, those same people would have claimed he was given the grades because he was a minority.

Yes, that is what I have gathered from recent reading on this. The intellectuals might prefer to stay out of politics entirely and focus on more meaningful pursuits, like maybe teaching and giving lectures to scholars and students.

I am not sure that an IQ test would be enough or even important to govern, providing there are certain limitations. But a country doesn´t need geniuses. It does need people with common sense and generosity though.

Well, even these wonderfully great human character traits would be a good start.

@lookatdesktop Yes. But common sense is not so common.

@marguicha , You are on point. The general expectations of American voters are lower than they have ever been, in my opinion.

Yep, but at least being able to read and actually reading would be a plus.
